Ok, to start off i have a black 97 gsx, with bronze rims, I want to get a FMIC and powdercoat it black, and get either Greddy or Trust (i have a greddy FMIC) powdercoated in bronze to match my rims. I was wondering if anyone thought this was a good idea? i have never seen it done before, so i was hoping it was original. Do you guys think it is a good idea? Also im thinking about going with tan/black interior, like a ferrari.

What do u guys think of my ideas??

Please no negative responses like "dude, bronze is ###", or "thats ricey", i just want a opinion if you think it is a good idea or not. Here is a pic of my car with my wheels, and a photoshop (my first time ever) of my FMIC idea.

Not a good idea to coat the IC. A coating like that will reduce your heat transfer rate and lessen the cooling effects. It would be just like putting a coat of insulation on it.

Really? i have seen alot of intercoolers powdercoated before... i dont know why they would do it, if it means less heat transfer.... never knew that.

I'm not an ME, but that would be the most logical reasoning. I haven't worked a lot with air cooling, but liquid heat exchangers are most efficient when clean.

they are prob. anodized.

Anodizing the intercooler won't effect the heat transfer

but powdercoating will? like definetly, because i was about to get it powdercoated. anyone know where i can get a anodized fmic??

find a machine shop that does aluminum, and see where they get stuf anodized. one of my fathers accounts does anodizing, and it is fairly cheap (well, for me anyways, cuz he knows the manager)

once it's cleaned thouroughly (or brand new) it's simply a 'dipping' process for your intercooler, the hard part might be finding a shop that can dip that large of a piece. i'm not sure how many places have tanks that big. whenever i had stuff done, it was $10 for whatever i could fit INSIDE of a 5gallon pail. so i'm assuming the tank they used was slightly bigger than that. it was a wired cage, approximately the same size as the 5gal pail.

check local machine/aluminum shops. variety of colors available as well.

when I eventually get my fmic I will get it anodized also. i have the # to a co. that sells intercoolers already anodized and I believe they anodize also. pm me later I'll look for that #
