1st gen hood

Did any 1st gen dsms come without the bump on the hood? It serves no purpose correct? I read that it does and doesnt on here, and I dont have the motor in my car to check right now.

Yes, it does serve a purpose. You're timing belt cover/cam gears would hit if it wasn't there.

90 and maybe 91 1.8L's came without the bump.

It gives clearence for the cam gears. So it does serve a purpose.

the bump on the hood means its happy to see you, the ticking from under the hood means its excited...

Saw that on DSMTalk. thought it was good.

the none oem cf hoods have probably compensated and tweeked their hoods to eliminate the hump... but yes it does serve a purpose...

the only year that came without the hump was 89. the reason is they only made a few and they were all 1.8's

The hump is to clear the cam gear cover. Apparently some CF hoods are low enough that you have to run without the cover, which is akin to running across a freeway while blindfolded. If they'd done away with the distinctive hump, they'd have had to find some less-attractive, false reason to put one on the other side.
