just a quick question, im running 18's on my 95tsi right now, i can get a sweet deal on some nice 20" giavonna wheels, my question is, is there enough room? it seems like theres almost no room between the tire and the bar that comes up behind the wheel, is there a mod to make this work or possibly a different offset works? for all i know it might work with a +40 adding an inch but it just doesnt seem like there'd be enough room. . . .
also, i just changes front struts on this car, my swa bar end links are a bit rough, anyplace other than the dealer that i can get these? my dealer wants 42.00 a side. . . . . .

I say..... You buy the wheels if they really are a good deal and sell them to some guy with a 5" lift kit on their DSM. No, I'd seriously keep your 18s and be happy with them unless you really do want ridiculously big rims that will bend when you run over a pebble with the paper thin tires you'll have to have; because the 18s you have probably barely fit as it is. :) Good luck if you do want to put 20s on your DSM though, and be sure to post the crazy pictures of it.

yeah man, there is a reason why DSM's arent in dub magazines. How much can you get the 20s for? With that money you can do so many more usefull things to your ride. just my $.02

Ha... cutheduck, you replied to that other thread pretty much how I replied to this thread. :thumb: You rule.

I think it happens on every forum. I've seen it on Stratusphere.us and neons.org it's a sad sad thing. given, the european touring strats looked tight as hell with 19's and 20's on the track, but those are all dropped to the ground with crazy custom suspension and they're super lightweight rims on track only cars. A dsm just wouldn't look good at all for such a small car and you'd bend and rub them against the body all the time. buy em cheap and sell em high to some guy with an s-10 or something

This isn't a very good idea, a DSM wasn't made to have 20" wheels and honestly it will look silly.

I think that they will fit with the right tires no problem , measure the diameter of what is on your car now, on my old car i had 17's with 245/45 tires and i measured entire wheel and it is a lot bigger than a 20 with a 35 series tire would be

Sure. 225/30/20s (which exist) on a +40 through +45 offset won't rub on anything. They'd look stupid, not survive a month on the roads near my house, and make it clear that you're not performance-oriented, but they'd fit just fine.

Now can someone move this thread to the non-performance forum?

And surprisingly enough, the speedo wouldn't be too off either (-1.8%)

With a 30 profile tire, you might as well spray rubber onto the rim and cut the tread pattern out with a dremel.

Why surprising? Even when I'm being a snide, pompous, condescending ass, I try to get things right. So I used http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html to verify that 225/30/20 is about as close as you can get to 215/50/17 (around 0.6%, really), which is the other stock size on 2Gs.

That's interesting. I used the same program based on a 205/55/16 tire to get the speedo difference.

I was surprised that there was a tire that worked so well with an idea that is...well... lets just say... not my cup of tea.

20" wheels are only appropriate if they're spinners. And, other stuff that Political Correctness won't let me say anymore.

You betcherA. What better than Non-Performance? :thumb:

A shop that was once located in my area did it to a powder blue eclipse. They needed fender flares and air ride to fit them on. From what I understand the bar that you are speaking of had to be re worked in order to fit the rims on the car. The car was absolutely hideous when it was finished. Powder blue with a screaming white interior. It had supra headlights and s2000 taillights. I have to give the guys credit for being innovative, the body work was actually pretty good, not the best but not a hack job. But as we have seen on this site oh so many times, innovative does not mean practical, or even remotely good looking for that matter.

So what would be the maximum size you guys would go to ? I have the stock 16" rims right now, I plan to +2 to 18". Would that affect my ride quality ?

Next spring... fender flares, 20x7.5's, and bags... or i'm selling the spyder... haha just kidding. never sell, just mod more... :D

I remember that one :barf: . Didn't that car win best of show at NOPI a few years back?

i've seen something similar, two coupes with 20's, too wide. Konig just came out with a prophet 20" in chrome, only 7.5 inches wide though. They should fit better than a regular 20x8.5, or 20x8, assuming the offset will work and they don't hit the arms.

I'll be sure to measure next year when i have the money. No use teasing myself now since they arent in the budget. If anybody has pictures of this, please post them, besides the white car in the gallery. :thumb:

I have 18x8s and the tires come very close to the control arm. (225/40/18) You could probably go with 19x8.5 with the right offset and line up with the fenders with a smaller tire. 20s have to be narrow to fit and look right. (line up with the fenders) The car will be pretty high off the ground though, so looking good is tough anyway. :|
