custom sub enclosure questions

on a 1G, has anyone done a fiberglass enclosure where the rear seats are? I mean like removing the rear seats and putting 2 12's and amps there. would that work instead of using the trunk and spare tire area? is there anything there to worry about such as fuel tank access or anything?

I haven't put a sub encloser there, but I'm sure it's possible. I have taken apart the seats and there's really nothing there you would need to worry about. I made a fiberglass box for mine using the trunk, but I had to take out my spare in order to do it. I just carry around a can of "fix-a-flat" in case I get a flat. It's too bad the 1g's don't have a bigger trunk, if you decide to put the sub box there let me know how it turns out.

hey guys i was thinking about a sub enclosure for 2 12's or 15's that will conform to the trunk but i dont want it to go higher than the seat so i can still use the rear deck and also the box is gonna have a slot port for each speaker should i upfire my subs towards the glass or fire em with the ports to the rear of the car i need help audiophiles please respond

Well I can tell you that I have two 12s that take up probably 2/3 of the trunk space in my 1g and I fire them straight up at the glass and they kick really hard. All the sound stays in the car and you can't really hear my subs outside at all, which is what I like. I would definitely recommend firing them towards the glass. My old sub box had them fired towards the back and they didn't sound quite as nice and clean. That's just my opinion.

Well mine wasn't a 1G.. but this is what I did with my 2G trunk.. I too fired the speakers up to the hatch glass.

ok im getting 2 resonant engineering XXX 12's so it will be like 4.33cu ft cause i want it ported to like about 30-32hz do you guys think it will fit and what way should i fire the ports i also want it to conform to the trunk (around the strut towers) but i dont wanna fiberglass cause it takes too long

I believe that if you want to save on the amount of cubic feet needed you could always run the subs inverted/upsidedown

well, to be honest with you, i think that your xxx'z arent gunna fit in the trunk area. 4.33cu. feet per woofer is too much area that is gunna take up. you also have to take in the consideration for the ports, as they take up room as well.....

one thing i can tell you, is that my single 12" MMATS pro-cast subwoofer in a ported box at 41hz already makes my hatch rattle. my front windshield moves noticeably.

im already looking at ways to stop the rattling.

those xxx'z are gunna make some noise, if you put em in da right box. i would highly recommend that you make a fibergflass box for them.
