I purchased a kenwood headunit from someone for a real good price. Installed it using the wire harness and it works perfectly but as soon as I go to put the volume up the head unit throws a "code off" sign on the display and shuts down... So I look on here and see that a good thing to do is bypass the stock amp. Ok but how do I go about this can I
1) just not connect the amp wires on the wire harness or
2) run new speaker wires to each speaker and then to the wireharness or is there another way which would make my life easier?

Do any of you believe that its the factory amp that's causing the headunit to shut down?

you could also try getting a larger guage wire for the power and ground for the headunit if it's on a high volume and shuts off its probably not able to draw enough from the car due to too small a wire. it's either that, or the internal amp is going entirely.

Another thing to do is get RCA cable splitters, run two RCA's from the headunit back to the AMP you want to have power the speakers, then run the other RCA's to an amp for a sub, this is something i quickly thought of one day when i didn't have the money to get another headunit .

This is most likely the problem. Code Off is simply the message telling you the security code is not set. I'd check your connections for ground and +12 constant, a head unit shouldn't draw enough power to do that if everything's working right.

hey my kenwood hu did the same thing.. i had to find a larger and better ground.. i did it and now its all good id check your ground or use a bigger wire to ground it
