I installed a CD player in my car no problem(1990 GSX). I bought the harness hooked everything up and my cd player works perfect......................BUT MY GUAGE CLUSTER, PARKING LIGHTS, AND REAR LIGHTS DONT WORK!?!?!?! I back tracked through some of the wires that i thought would be a problem, but how could any be a problem when I used a harness? Checked all fuses, all are fine. WTF could have caused me putting a stereo in my car to do this? Thanks in advance!

Daniel :)

Easy check under your hood in the fuse box, their is a 10 or 15 amp fuse(for the tail light), its prolly bad and its the one who control your taillight and cluster light. ;)

I wish it was that easy  but all the fuses are good. I checked all 3 fuse boxes. As for the ground(this is where it gets wierd), when I plug my antenna in, I dont need a ground? But when I take my antenna out, I do need a ground? So basically the stereo works with the antenna plugged in but NO ground, but doesnt work with the antenna out, then i ground it out, and it does work? I donno but this is wierd to me, hopefully one of you guys can explain. Thanks again!

Daniel :)

Ok Ok I lied :shhh: The fuse blows right away. When I switch my lights on, the fuse blows? Now what do I look for? I have installed at least 4 stereos and never had a problem. Im probably just gonna take my car in OMG but at least itll be fixed(I hope!!)

sounds like something's shorted if your fuse blows right when you turn your lights on...that's weird, i would check the current capacity of the fuses are correct for each item? are you sure you've didn't connect a ground to power or power to ground? that's what this sounds like...

I fixed it! :thumb: I had the negative illumination wire hooked up. So I switched it to the positive illumination wire. But it still doesnt need a ground to work LOL :dsm: :talon: :laser: But at least everything works now! Thanks for all the help!

Danie :)

You need to make a ground to the metal framework inside the dash somewhere. It is very bad to ground through the antenna. Just take some wire and a ring terminal with a star washer so it doesn't come loose. Screw it to the clean metal, and your good to go.

FYI most factory grounds are crap. IF you can, always run you own. :thumb:

it's grounding through your antenna. even though it's working, make your own ground to the metal framework holding your radio in. that's a decent place in the 1G.
