It's a tricky place for subs...

Ok. Now that I've been out of work it's put a big stop as far as the upgrades I've had planned go. I do however have a good bit of time on my hands to finish up some projects that I've been neglecting. One is the backseat sub enclosure. I don't have a picture at the time so I'll be descriptive...

My backseats are out, and I want to mount my subs on the bottom facing upwards. Right now I have a piece of 3/4" plywood cut and shaped for the space and my subs are in and worked just fine...what I need now is to cover the subs. I want to either fiberglass over them and add plexiglass so you can see the subs, or carpet and plexi. I know this may not be the best description, but I will have pictures up soon for you to view. I want this enclosure to contour with the rest of the back panels, and I don't want it to be large. Think of it as the subs are sitting on the floor panels underneath where the seat use to be.

I'm looking for ideas from you all because I'm kinda stumped about this. I can picture it in my head, but when working on it, it becomes difficult. Anyway...let me know, and help me out.

Thanks in advance.

a little fyi... Since you haven't glassed anything yet, make it so that your subwoofers fire Backwards into the hatch area. Do not fire them up or you will get this wonderful thing called Cancellation.

"box at front of trunk speakers aiming forward or up through the rear deck = poor in car bass response, much better with trunk open."

Add twice as many braces as what you first thought you'd use and triple check your math for the enclosure volumes.

Pink are you affiliated with that website?

mine hit harder with the hatch closed than with it open....an they are fireing up im not trying to start anything just saying not that I care I like the setup. :p

Well I don't think my explanation came across clearly enough. I will have pictures coming up...I have the subs working now, and they produce the correct amount of bass I'm looking for. Even with them aiming upwards.

Pics asap.

This only applies to certain vehicles/setups.What I normally do it build a quick MDF box that can be moved around, then experiment with location and aiming.Find out what works best in your vehicle, and build the permanent enclosure from that data.

Hopefully those pictures give you a better idea of what I'm going for. As you can see the speakers are sitting right on the base...the amp will be moved and will be in where the spare tire goes...I need to create a top piece to cover over the subs...any ideas on how to go about doing that?

If you roundover the edges, try vinyl. No point in spening days to fiberglass and weeks to sand it. Vinyl looks great too!

Pink, I REALLY loved the girls in the "I love car audio" section. The 70's ruled!!

Not to get too far off topic, PM me if you could, what you think of your MTX's. I'm in the market for some new subs and need some opinions. Gsgoingturbo looks like a fun project, I wish I could learn fiberglassing and all that fun stuff. And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to take out their backseat to put in subs :D
