What are the differences between the front bumpers of the 1g's. Either between the 3 models or between all the years of the run. I'm mostly trying to find which one would have the bigger gap, or would be the most efficient for a fmic.

The most efficient is no bumper at all. But who wants to look at that? IMO the 2G 97-99 would leave you the largest area for airflow with an FMIC

Jeezus I was way off topic I misread your post. Sorry.
Off of the top of my head I have no clue...

i wouldnt want to put any kind of kit on a 1g, dont like that much. im basically just wondering which stock 1g bumper has the biggest opening. i would definitely hack it up if i need to, but i'd rather start with somethin a little better

None of the 1gs have a better front bumper than another. The differences are so small that they don't make a difference. Just get the one with the symbol you want on the front of your car. The only thing that I've seen done that really works is to take a chunk out of the top of the center hole. dsmtrance did this and it looked awesome.
