How do I install a tach.

Didn't your car come with a tach?

I'm guessing there are 3-4 wires

signal

Other than that, just tap appropriately and find the signal in the dash. It's probably labeled if you pull off the stock guage cluster

I have the tach installed and working but the wire that everyone says is the signal wire doenst work right. The tach only registers like 20% of what it should, no matter what setting it is on(4,6,8). I'm using the white wire behind the gauge set. Is there another wire I should be using for the signal?

i wonder if its having the problem displaying correctly because its not converted properly. you may need to get a converter to provide the proper signal to the tach. dsms don't use reagular tach signals......

as far as i know.

Of course it came with a tach but I got a new one that has a shift light. I've read a few forums but i havent found anything for my specific ride yet.

i dont understand. you have one that works, but youre putting in another one. are you planning on putting another steering wheel in or something too?

Well in my case i solo race my car, so a bigger tach with a shift light lets me keep my eyes on the road and not at my gauge cluster.

Kook, do you have any idea how far off the stock tach can be? When my stock tach says im at 7500 im actually only at 6500. Its not so bad at lower rpms but as the rpms come up it gets more and more inaccurate. Im not a big fan of monster tachs but i am a fan of accuracy.

Hey yea kook im with church Im not a fan of monster tachs but I too am a fan of accuracy and the stock guage cluster is far from accurate. Ive had my tach rade 7500 rpms on the guage cluster butt my Datalogger read the true value of 8800 rpms.
and thats why I shift at 6500 on the stock tach now.
