Aftermarket amp and subs with factory receiver?

Can anyone tell me if this is possible. Right now I just have the factory system (not infinity), and I'm considering purchasing an amp and subs off of a friend to put in my '99 RS. My question, however, is if I can do this without also buying an aftermarket receiver. Will the amp and subs hook up to my factory receiver, and if not, can someone suggest some moderately priced recievers to consider?

it is possible with a line out converter, walmart sells these. THey splice into your speaker wires and make a rca signal you can plug an amp into. But I'm not sure how to run the remote wire to turn you amps on. My suggestion is go with a nice pioneer cd, they start at around 130 and go up, a nice one with sub control will cost you 180 dollars. That is my suggestion, as lineout converters sacrifice a little sound.

it really depends, you can do like Redmachine said, or some amps, have a thing that you plug in to it called the high leven inputs or summin like that, and what you do is splice in to you left and right rear speaker wires, and it has L- L+ R- R+ and a ground, and it works like that, and if when and if you get a new aftermarket cd player, it has rca jack also, oh and for the remote turn on, just splice into any 12 v accessory line that is on only when the key is on
and so you know, i have an audiobahn A8002T and it is a kick ass amp hope i helped

Possible, yes, but make your life simple and go purchase a new Pioneer head unit if you have the money. Best product for the price, and you know it'll work with the amp.

I just did this about a week ago so its fresh in memory. You do need to purcahse the RCA adaptor and splice that in. then as for the remote turn on it is the all blue wire on the wiring harness. at least it was on mine. good luck if u do it.
