I did a search but couldnt find what I was lookign for.

I just got a 99 RS and I want to replace the stock speakers. My old car had removeable grills but the eclispe doesn't. How do you get to the speakers in the front doors and in the rear?

Thanks

you get to do the following

1. pop off the cute screw covers on the door panels
2. remove the screws in the door panels
3. remove the handle trim piece (and the scre in the bottom of the armrest
4. gently pull the panel away from the door (starting at the top usually seems easiest)
5. disconnect any power lock/window attachments and remove the panel...your speakers are now easy to get to.

for the back panels it's a similar process...but usually involves removing the rear seats to make it easier.

you're going to have to remove the interior panels to get to the speakers...it's not hard

Its not too difficult for the fronts you just pop off the door panels after you unscrew them and you'll be in direct access to the speakers. The backs are more of a pain because you have to remove more plastic...I recommend you remove the back seats for this one.

4. reccommend pulling from the middle rearmost edge where the screws are and working your way down and across.

5. you don't need to unplug them. just turn the door pannel 90 degrees and let the edge rest on the ground on a towel or something. pulling those can be a real pain in the a$$. and is not necessary to get to the door speakers.

Forthe rear def pull the seat bottom out and unscrew two? screws and you are set. Pull the weather stripping on the door out a little so you can grasp the edge of the panel and pull sharply.. Note the top part near the window is not part of it.

Thanks for all the help guys. It's too bad the grills dont just pop off!

I have an RS so it has manual windows, is getting the crank off fairly easy?

With Mitsubishi, there's no such thing as "just pops off." It's more like, "just breaks off." You'll have to cut the rears if you wanna put 6x9's in, and may have to cut the brackets to fit stock size as well. Not sure about the fronts. Make sure you replace with a shallow enough speaker cause there's not much room back there.

it will either be a screw uner a cover in the middle of the crank, or it will have a clip that has to be pushed out to allow the unit to lide off the shaft.

Recommend that you ask your local stereo shop to borrow a popper to unclip it or purchase your own.

Sorry but never seen an RS before, so don't know how exactly it works.

other option would be to use a piece of flat material like abs or thin metal and cut a U into it, and make your own. If you can get a locla shop to pop one then then you can use it as a pattern to figure out how to make your own popper and what size the u must be.

It's held on by a wire clip. Take a bandana, handkerchief or shop rag, slide it down between the handle and the door trim, and gently saw back-and-forth. The clip will drop out as the handle falls off. Have something soft below the door to catch it all.

To re-install, put the clip in the handle and press it straight onto the winder stud.
