Turbo timer housing

This is a turbo timer housing I made for my car. I molded the hosing for an HKS TT type 1.I also drilled a hole for my alarm LED.

The piece is the steering column from my 97 gst.As far as making it yourself plan on investing 12+ hours of sanding and molding with fiberglass. I can take orders however there is a one month wait once I recieve money.Cost is $350(parts&built,shipping extra) and no it is not "pricey ". Any cheaper and it's not worth my time.

350 bucks is FUGGIN EXPENSIVE for something like that. I wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks for that mod. and YES, i do know how long and tedious a task like that takes

It's nice, But I agree. $350.00 + shipping is way too much. Even $350 shipped is to much!!If you're trying to get rich quick, Definatly lower the price alot and you might have alot of people wanting this piece, But not for the price that you have stated.

I'm not trying to get rich quick. I build custom car audio fulltime and get payed well. I will not disclose how much. This price is way under what my sales guys tell me to charge.If it were cheap everyone would flood me with orders.If it were easy to make everyone would have one. Do this, print out this picture and go to your local sterio shop and see they will even make this.Then ask how much it will cost.After it's installed look real close and see how it fits.Then after a year see it it starts to crack on the edges.Then tell me I'm too expensive.

we are on a tuner forum, mainly with guys that are looking to mod cheap. IF we all wanted to , yes we could all go out and get some professional shop to do it for us. but that's not the point. i guess you've never heard of a homey hook up?

anyway, it's your product you charge what you want - - AND, it does look VERY good

In support of 20PSI: i do a lot of custom molding as well. i don't think $350 is out of line at all.

however, for that price i'd make sure there was a warranty based on your last post... ("...after a year see it it starts to crack on the edges.Then tell me I'm too expensive...") if i were to do it, it'd be more like $250, but once you get it your on your own. there are too many variables to promise that it will not crack. NOTHING that i have made for myself or good friends have cracked yet. but when selling to someone you don't know, who knows how gentle they are when they install it, and how they treat it. too many variables from handling to installing to user abuse to promise it won't crack.

either way, the piece looks nice, and i too would like to see some installed pics whenever they are available!

I agree.That's why I stand behind my work.We a have a one year craftmanship warranty at my work, if it cracks send back and I'l fix it and send it back to you.

Nice! Looks really good and can be color matched to the car as well. $350 is alot...but hell, some of my parts cost a couple left nutz' as well so who am I to say.
I gotta' say though, I REALLY like they way you took the extra time and have it "stepped" in front. They are a PITA to make (especially in carbon fiber!!!) so I do not screw around with them anymore. Looks really good though, maybe make a couple master molds so you can bring the cost down a tad and bypass some of that labor.
Here is a similar one I made for my friend's GSX to house some Greddy unit. Made it rather quickly since it was "one off" and didn't put much thought into it, just the top....

That's how my first piece started out.Then I had to figure out how to get it to stay.I didn't like the way it hung over on the bottom housing.I then decided to mold the two even with each other and came up with this $350 monster.I could crank out that carbon fiber piece in an hour and keep the price around $100.BTW this is just the primer stage.I am having it painted HoK Galaxy Grey.

Funny how you say that, I think it was about an hour to make and I charged him around $100. Now making it in carbon fiber the way you hae yours made would be a major pain to get the corners and step...unless you bag it. And it would be way more than $100 to make it for sure. Props on that pod.

20PSi, like mentioned above, a master mold would be a good idea.

I wonder how it would work with 'plastic injection' molding materials. that may be worth looking into if you have enough people interested. that molded plastic injection stuff is a pretty cool way to crank out a bunch of pieces like that. just a thought.

First off, those pieces look really nice guys.

But instead of paying $350 why doesnt everyone go over to Home Depot with $50 and get the supplies to make your own. Sure you will spend countless hours over the next few weeks learning/screwing up, but whats a few hours of your time? Not like your doing anything important theese days anyway.

The stuff at Home Depot is great....if you want to patch a fiberglass roof.I don't know how many people I've seen at car shows who have used it to do custom work.Auto supply houses also sell bondo which is two steps above stir fried poop. I highly recommend you go through Select Products.

I havent been able to watch many people at car shows building stuff out of fiberglass either, but that is usually because they do the work before they go to the show so I dont know what they use. The home depot stuff isnt the best, but its not like you need a 4oz cloth for this project either. Maybe if you were molding an action figure.

It's not about how strong it is.It's about how this stuff expands and contracts due to weather changes.

100% polyester fleece & 100% polester resin works great! (i think it's polyester.. someone correct me if i was wrong)

It's polyester.Rage gold is what I use.

polyester is the way to go. for small items, no reinforcment needed usually, but that of course depends on what your making.

for the turbotimer molding you did, i don't forsee a lot of matting/resin needed really. although maybe for those nice smooth edges. easier with a fabric of some kind, then less filler would be needed. i bet somthing similiar could be done with liberal use of ABS & filler as well.
