I have a new found respect for anyone who has ever painted a car.

Thats awesome. Make sure you post pix of how it tuns out. BTW: your work space is the stuff dreams are made of.

painted mine about 2 months ago if you have any ? i will be glad to help. my work space wasn't nearly that big. it sure would have been alot easier. look in the gallary at the pics. other then that looks good....a word of advice if in that picture is bondo glazing putty don't use it its junk just use bondo of fiberglass filler. for small air bubbles and stuff.

other then that looks good
good luck

Thanks everyone.

I actually am using the bondo glazing stuff. Its too late now though because there is another coat of primer over it. O well though. I think it should turn out good. I put alot of time into this project.

I'm painting it black again. I'm actually not painting the entire car. I know that it won't match exactly, but I'm gonna get it close afting buffing the old paint to look newer.

I'm basically doing the front bumper, hood, roof, mirrors and some paneling. I'm basically painting the top half of my car + the front bumper, so there will be some seperation between the new and old paint. I guess we'll see the outcome very soon. I couldnt paint today because of high humidity. Hopefully tomorrow yields better conditions.

One question for you 4g: What basic steps did you take in your painting process?

ie: mask, sand.... did you do anything different? Any other tips. I'm almost done, I just want to see how others have done it.

Im in the process of painting my car too. Its all in the prep work really. I finally got the primer on it but its been to rainy/ humid to paint here. Its been raining every day for the past week. I also discovered that my car had previously been in an accident that wasnt on the car fax, some one did a great bondo job down the passenger side.

Your lucky. I painted mine in a barn with a shitty ass gun. I kinda half assed mine. I know I shouldn't of. But oh well. It's just flat black. As everyone else calls it "Primer". It pisses me off. It's FLAT BLACK Bi-otches! :thumb:

the paint I used was ppg deltron with a concept clear coat....make sure that when you get reducers and hardeners you get the same brand. and for the reducers get the one thats closest to the temp in your garage if ya dont paint looks like poop *******that temp is an all night temp to so if you get a reducer for 70 to 80 degress you have to keep the garge ain that temp range for the time that it needs to dry****** also I can't stress enough to read all the mixing and instructions for the paaint and clear...mixture is everything...mess that up mess the whole car up....also check your pressure range I had a problem that I was spraying the clear on at to high of a psi for the drying time.......and lay that clear on thick but not so thick it runs....ok I need to shut up now I am just rambaling

how cool im not the only one LOL. Im painting mine too to a glossy balck though. i am down with all the prep witht he exception of masking my windows LOL. ok I will post pics as i go mine use to be an eagle white with black top and ugly as broken front bumper 95. Now as u see in the pics i have an r34 octane bumper with all the logos og eagle shaved off and the door strip to by accident. when i used paint striper to remove the whole paint the door strip started melting woops oh well i took it off and sanded and filled came out good youl see int he pics. Also any advice on how much is to much for gloss. i bought this paint that is glossy already but i also but clear coat on top of that i want my car to look shinny as all hell. but i dont know whats too much. well im talking to much im aslo fiberglasing the interior pillars and painting them black re doing headliner with black leather. that all i could afford so far. next step is buying black carpet re doing door panels and last is sound system. im doing some crazy but stock you see.

Alright, thanks for the info. I will be buying the paint today sometime. The garage I'm working in is nice because there is a furnace to help keep the heat up at night.

I should have final pics within the next day. I can't wait to see how this comes out.

I know that this is going to sound elementary but the point that will either make or break your job is in how well you prep the car, aka get all of the dust out. Dust will hide anywhere any everywhere and as soon as you hit it with a bit of air it will find it's way smack dab into your new paint. At work we will normally follow this prep process: blow the entire car out with an air gun at about 110 120psi, then wipe the entire car down with a pre paint cleaner, mask the car off (make sure you don't leave any folds in the paper as dust can find their way into them also when we mask we normally drape paper from say the bottom of the quarter right down to the floor), wipe down again, tack rag the entire car, coat the floor of the booth with water, then right before we spray we wipe and tack rag one last time. When we spray we will normally seal the entire car with a single coat of our R&M primer mixed as an adhesion promoter (4:1:1) then follow up with 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear. You have the right idea priming and wetsanding anywhere where you applied bondo, I don't care how good the stuff is that you are using, you will more than likely get pin holes in it if you just spray your paint over bare bondo. good luck with the paint, just make sure you overlap properly, you maintain good "panel to gun distance", take your time ( don't move too fast, in the clear this will lend itself to a "dry" panel which will require a lot of wetsanding and buffing) most importantly get in a rythm and keep it going. If a problem arises on a certain panel like a run or fish eyeing just walk away from the panel and concentrate on the rest of the car, you can always go back and scuff and repaint.

Hey man, seems as if there is quite a few of people fixin to paint theirs. Mine is gettin done TOMORROW!! wooooooo hoooooo, finally after like 6 months of workin on and off on the body work. There was a $H!t load, had atleast 120+ hail dings on the roof which was the biggest pain ever. Ever!

But ya make sure you prep it good. And when you wash it wash places you wouldnt usually. Even under the car.

miteclgst knows what hes talkin about so if you have any questions, then id talk to him. Im sure other people know aswell but he helped me with mine and he knows his stuff.

Make sure you get some pics up when you get er done!

Got the paint on today.

Theres frickin bubles on the hood in a few spots. I know why I have them, but this makes me mad. I'm gonna wetsand the hood over and spray it again. Other than that though, the paint looks beautiful.

I'll post pics on monday when i get them. I still have to go back and redo the hood.

hi im thinking of doing this myself to my eclipse.. a few questions... what tools did u need to do this and arpund how much did they cost?.. and on a scale of 1-10 how hard was it to do?.....ty

right now my dads primering the car, we are painting it subaru wr blue that cost around 300 for all the primer color solvents and yada yada, dad already has a compressor and sprayer and i dont know how much that cost but if i can figure out how to post images i can show before and after pics....

~When we're done it'll either be pimpin or sold and pimpin~

see it just goes to show all good minds think alike,LOL.i am also painting my car i just finished all the body work and bodykit last week and im in the same problem you guys are in,humid and hot as heck.lets all keep up with this and see everyones progress. :thumb: :dsm:

UPDATE

The bubbles in the paint were caused by water in the compressor or compressor lines. All of the humidity from earlier days actually got water into the compressor lines. What a bummer. I'm redoing the hood tomorrow and I should be done on tuesday.
