A cupholder would have been great. I wouldnt like it there though because thats were my arm is during shifting. If i had a big gulp in there, it would definately be uncomfortable. Plus, I just had that compass laying around.

A friend of mine took out the cigarette lighter and replaced it with a water temp gauge. It looks great, and he said it was almost an exact fit for it.

I found that the kicker remote gain/bass control is a perfect pressure fit in the 2 g ashtray. out of sight and super convenient.

I actually have needed the use of a compass at times. Its not a bad thing to have in your car in my opinion.

Plus i just had it laying around not being used in my house.

Compass IS useful. I have one in my radar detector though.

I'd like to see someone put a GPS nav monitor somewhere in the car. That's what I really need.

as mentioned above, the cupholder does get in the way if you have a large drink in there, and end up with a street race. it is hard to shift at times. but the long drives with a gatorade in there instead of the armrest up... more than make up for it!

as for making it, just make a filler plate like TalonTSI01 did for his compass. for the cupholder itself, i used a 3" diameter port-tube (think car audio shop) and cut it off at the correct depth. it has a nice lip on it so that it will just sit right into the hole that you cut in your filler plate. as for the bottom, i found that a tupperware lid fit the port tube PERFECT! i spray painted it black, and superglued it into place. (i ended up using some electrical tape to hold the lid on as well from the bottom side. not too pretty, but unvisible once in place)

very old picture, everything is now covered in black, and i have a round aluminum trim ring around the shift boot, with a black leather boot. also, the 4 switches are long gone. but anyways, you get the idea.
