has anyone ever seen a convertibele 1g dsm? or even made a fake one with photoshop or something? I have heard of people turnign their saturns, hondas, etc. into convertibles but I was wondering what a 1g would look like. making it a convertabel wouldnt be hard but making some sort of top to put on the car and drive with out any leaks in rain would be the hard part. Any links to websites with info on people who have done this kind of stuff would help to please.

I've seen pics of a prototype before. in fact I might still have the mag. that it was in. If I can find it I'll scan and post.

thanx for the pics guys. man I am tryign to figure out if its possibel to do a convertable thing but that woudl take a long time! I have had some ideas on how to do lambo style doors too but I am still brainstorming.

cutting the roof off is the easy part....making a top that is weather-resistent and durable at high speeds is another story. than you have to add supports and bracing to the actual body & frame of the car to make up for the loss of structural strength...which costs alot. worth it???? i guess that's up to you. personally i think that's the biggest waste of time, let alone money in the world. it's a 10 year old car and it'd cost more for that mod than it did for the entire car, and you'll never get that money back. if you're pretty good at custom body work tho and have alot of free time i'd say go for it!

I wouldn't waste my time. They look great as hard tops. Not to mention if you plan on taking it to the track, I'm almost positive that if you run faster than like 13.99 you would have to have lots of extra items like a full roll cage, etc. since your a convertible. I'm sure some of the guys with 2G Spyders can second that.

:dsm: This is a beauty. Didn't it come out as a concept back in 1988 or 1989. I remember the picture from old Car & Driver and Motor Trend magazines. Color is really nice. Currently the New 3G DSM
Eclipse had a concept car convertible with 20 inch wheels and that weird burn't orange "House of Color" pearlescent paint. The 20 inch wheels were gunmetal grey. It would be interesting if a DSM member had a convertible 1G car.

There are places in California that make one off convertibles. They cut the top off and strengthen the frame. Stramann is one, plus there are others. I think a custom job would cost between $2,000 to $8,000 dollars. A lot of cash for a custom job. I think it would be unique though and would like to see it done.

Yeah I think I've heard of that place. They did the convertable PT Cruisers awhile back I think. Those were soo sweet. You know what I've always wanted to see? A drop-top Tiburon. Like the new ones. Those cars are soo tight!

I love the new ones. It's something about the headlights. But I would still take a older one. However, I could get a sweet 1st gen DSM for $4500
