I need a carbon fiber hood that is paintable. It must have the OEM "lump." Also, I once saw a hood online somewhere that had a scoop/inlet hole in the front of the lump. Was that a custom job, or does somebody make those? TIA.

:dsm:

im pretty sure the scoop was custom i dont think ive ever seen one for sale on a site like that. also i thought you could paint any CF hood? i got my hood off www.splittingimagez.com , 350$ for the S1 hood with oem lump and free shipping

I didnt know they were all paintable. Do you have to prime it or anything first? And do you have any pics of your car with the aftermarket hood on it?

its actually not on yet, i get my car back today been in the shop for 2 months.... so next week ill have it on.

and im not positive on the painting thing but i dont see why you couldnt. ive never seen like "paintable" CF hood or something. call the shop you would want to paint it they probably know

Hey, look what I found with Google:

http://www.extrememotorsports.com/grcat/

A lightweight carbon fiber hood with a quality level that stands above the cheap, flimsy hoods that we've seen from other vendors. This one is a exact fit for the second generation Diamond Stars, and uses the factory mounting brackets, latches and hinges. It's gel-coated, and paintable if you wish, and weighs in at a svelte 17 lbs (verses the stock 40 lb steel hood). For all models of the second generation Talon/Eclipse

$575, ouch!

Carbon fiber hoods are paintable. Scuff and paint. Same as fiberglass as far as prep work.

ditto -- just got to scuff up the top coat.
