Modify 1g center console

I was thinking about fiberglassing over all of those holes (cig lighter, ash tray etc) on my 1g center colsole and painting it to give it a smoother look. The only question I have is whether or not this will work since it seems like the console is covered in a foam that is only semi-hard. Any of you guys done anything like this or have any other ideas?

I say go for it, if it dont turn out the way you like you can always get another. Id try some fiberglass bondo material

i've smoothed out all the holes, but covered it in fabric actually instead of painting. I also have a round aluminum trim ring for the shift boot, instead of the rectangular base for the shift boot. looks very clean IMO. If interested, i may be able to find my pics somewhere, or just take a few new ones to post.

Either yank the foam and glass up the console, or better yet, make a "shell" that covers the whole console. It'd be easier to make without getting low spots over the holes that way.
