Mmm'kay, I've searched, and have gotten a bunch of different answers, and most of the posts are old as hell anyways..so I've got my Intelliglo Needle kit..need to take the needles off. How EXACTLY do I do this..the instructions they gave said spin them 3 times counter-clockwise, but I've also read NOT to do this..so? How's it done?

Also read to just pop them up with like a fork, being sure to warm the car up & mark where they are before..can't I just mark where they sit with the car off...?? Why do they have to be marked at normal idle conditions?

Thanks!

Nice, but I'm just looking for how specifically to take the needles off..you put yours pointing at 6 o'clock before you took them off..wouldn't that damage them or put your needles off calibration? I'm pretty much just looking for the answer of: Why can't I just leave my needles where they sit at not-warmed up conditions, instead of having to mark them while at idling/warmed-up conditions...

Thanks though!

Ahh! Alrighty then..that 'spring' answer's what i was looking for..mm'kay then. So anybody know anything about that 'spin needle around 3 times counter-clockwise' method?

crap, ok, im checking my how-to to see if i included this section.

Now be aware, if you screw this up, things will suck for you :(. i took the needle for the speedo for example, jumped it over the stop below zero and then let it drop all the way down till it aimed up with the letter "L" and the left leg of the "M" i then placed the flat head under
neath it, and put pressure to pop it off. be careful you lose alignment = :(.

pull the needle upwards till it jumps over the stopper and let go, it will automaticly stop at a certain point, you push it back to the stopper and let it go, just so it falls to that same point again, dont jump the stopper, just push it up again to watch it fall down,
ok, youve done that for a few minutes, are you amused enough?

Next step after it finally falls to its spot, look at where its pointing to. this is your calibration point. remove the needle, do your stuff, replace it to that same point, jump the stopper. Done.

if it doesnt make sense let me know, my Unglish sucks.

To remove the needles, pull them over the little stops, and let them settle to the bottom. Make a slight mark on the face w/ a peice of tape, or a magic marker (or a peice of tape w/ the marker line on it like i did). Then just pull them up and off. When you re-install them, be sure to get them right on the little mark you made, or your calibration will be off. After they are on nice and snug, lift them over the stop and let them settle, turn ont he car and let it idle for a minute. If you need to make any adjustments do so now. That should about cover the removal and installation of the needles themselves. Follow the instruction in the book to the "t" and you shouldn't have any problems.

There (at least on dsm) should be no reason to spin the needle 3 times. That might apply to a different make that isn't a pop-on pop-off style needle. I would think spinning them that much might damage the retention springs.

Just follow FiReBReTHa's instructions - he's done it, and has helped others (and pluged his site too :p ) and knows what he's talking about. You run a good risk of damaging the needle alignment if you don't know what you're doing. Which isn't really a bad thing, if you don't care your speed or RPMs..
