99gst black front piece

most of you know that on the 97-99 2g eclipse there is a black little piece that sticks out on top of the mouth of the front bumper... i was wondering if there were any of you that cut away that black piece? and how it came out? i've seen pictures of cars that have it cut out, including the featured car on dsmtuners.com. i recently got a front mounted intercooler from apex and i was thinking about cutting away the black piece...but a couple of my friends said that it would ruin the shape of the bumper...is that true? how has urs come out if u have cut away the front bumper? is it true that i need to re-paint my front bumper?

Done it to mine, and your friends are wrong. It will not mess with the shape of the bumper in any way. Just get a Dremel and cut away. The more care you take, the better it will look of course. Looks great with my FMIC too!

Nah, I chopped mine out when I fabricated the front grille for the car. The bumper will hold it's shape just fine; there's a metal reinforcement along the base of the bumper that holds the shape nicely.

I'll probably do this when I get my nice new FMIC in there.
