The paint on the plastic trim on my 98 GS-T behind my front fenderwells has suddenly decided to fall off. If you can see the attached pic, those gray speckles are actually bare plastic where the paint peeled back.
The other side is actually much worse, with entire finger-sized parallel strips gone.
Curiously, the damage is limited to the plastic trim - the metal fenderwell surrounding it is fine.
(Edit: the plastic isn't gouged or nicked in any way - it's just missing paint)
It's like I drove through acid or something, as it all happened suddenly in the last few weeks (since last car wash).
Anyways, I'm curious if it's just a random event, or if it's a common problem?
Maybe I let road tar sit on it too long, weakening it... and the car wash pressure washer (previous wash) did the rest... through it looked fine then.
I cleaned and waxed (twice!) the entire car over the weekend, looking for more problems, and found none - the paint is perfect everywhere else.
