it costs that much to paint a friggin hood.OMG i thought people got their whole cars done for like $400-$500

yeah to get your hood done only it wouldnt cost that much... and anyway get a CF hood i got a hood for 350$ shipped from www.splittingimagez.com, they have a free shipping special on 2gs. for a 1g youd have to go with VIS for like 450..

I happen to like the 'power bulge'

and you'd paint that carbon fiber hood anyways, wouldnt you? right? i hope?

Spend 300 bucks and repaint the stock hood i say.

How?

Sand...paint...clearcoat?

I would probaly be doing both my hood and roof (both have oxidation). I'm not sure what products to buy, how to sand or how to paint. Any help is appreciated.

Pretty much, sand, paint, buff.

I'd go carbon, but there is safety to consider. Apparantly there have been a few cases where drivers and passengers got injuried... or killed in accidents where the carbon hoods broke off of their attachment points and sliced through the windshield and beyond upon impact. So be careful. Definitely get hood pins no matter what.

You'll find that if you let the paint continue to oxidize, that instead of continuing to worry about dorks parking too close to your car, they tend to run away fearing you'll ding _them_. :D

nice post this really helps him fool!

anyways though if its just oxidation try using a compound and wetsanding to get rid of it, youll need a buffer some whatever grit sand paper and lots of water. start out by dipping a rag in the water and then the sand paper and slowly sand dont sand too hard or youll take off the clearcoat and create and dull spot, sand very slowly and keep adding water from the rag by squeezing it over the area your sanding, after your done sanding put your polishing pad on a buffer and out your compund on and then use the buffer to work it in really good. i suggest using a moderate compound then after that a lower compund and then apply wax. of course this might not fix it but if you have a buffer lying around id give it a try it would only take like 20 worth of products. :thumb:

2 part post.

now if you wanted to paint it yourself, i would suggest using a sand blaster and takign the hood off the car, and then use a moderate grit sandpaper and sand away till its nice and smooth, then get a nice paint and clearcoat and have at it, dont forget to apply a paint adherer to the hood so the paint will stick better. i reccomend the first thing i said youd be amazed what a good wetsanding and polishing can take away.
