i am getting kosei k1 ts 17x8" rims with +35mm offset. i have a 92 laser rs turbo awd.
what is the widest size tire that will fit on these without rubbing issues and maintain accurate speedo readings?
can i get 245/40-17?
i need an answer fast so i can order these damn things and put my new brakes kit on.

From what I've gathered...

8" wide rim with 35 mm offset will stick out. 43 mm is flush. 38 mm sticks out but isn't too noticeable.

7.5" wide with 35 mm offset is a little past flush.

Tire size is easy. If you spend some time on tirerack.com you'd find all the answers. But, a quick rundown...

Based on the Kumho 712...

Stock tiresize (16") - 24.9" overall dia.
235/45/17 - 25.3"
245/40/17 - 24.7" (requires 8" wide rim min.)

Overall dia. of same size tire differ from brand to brand and model to model.

Which brakes are you getting?
 
im getting the tce/wilwood combo with the 13" rotors and the bsl6 calipers.
by "stick out" do you mean that they will rub when turning? thats all im worried about.
im getting the kumho exta mx tires.

I don't know about rubbing... I was talking about the fronts sticking out past the fender.

Does TCE have wheel clearance templates for their kits?
 
Ah... I was trying to see if you knew whether those wheels would clear the brakes. TCE's site doesn't appear to have templates.
 
in case anybody is interested, we went to put the brake kit on my car on friday (thanks for the help alex), but had to take it off due to the wrong brake lines being sent (todd said he would send the right ones the next day, though--no biggie). i did get a chance to test fit a rim on with the rotor and bsl6n installed (didnt take the car off the jack) and the rim fit on with no problems. after re-installing the stock brakes, we put the new rims on my car.
so, i can say, on my car with 17x8" rims with a +35mm offset and stock suspension, with 215/45-17 kumho exta mx tires (i got this size cuz tirerack wouldnt mount and balance any other size tire except their recommended tire sized for this rim and this car--i wanted 245/40-17 or at least 225s) there are NO clearance issues. there are about 2 inches of space between the tire and the front and back of the well when the wheel is turned either way (so i probably could have gone for the 245s, which have a smaller diameter than the tires i settled with). if the tce hats are the same width as the stock hats, then this should apply with the brake kit also.
oh yeah, and the tires do not stick out past the fenders, they are flush with the widest part of the wells (the top of the wells).
just wanted to put this out for anybody who is looking for an answer to this question, as i was before.
 
i went with the road race kit with the 13" rotors and the BSL6n calipers up front and the up size rotor kit (11.75") on the rear (i like my parking brake).
i originally wanted the 12" rotor with the FSL calipers, but i wanted the 1.1" wide rotors. for those of you who want this setup too, todd gave me some info on clearance issues with the FSL and 1.1" wide rotors vs. the BSL6n calipers:

"The narrow six on the 1.10 is nearly the same as the FSL on the .81 rotor. The difference is about +1.5mm to the spoke. Meaning in any case this is about as narrow as it gets. Now if you do the FSL caliper on the 1.10 rotor, that space is compromised by 3.5mm MORE than the narrow six. (and about 5mm over the FSL/.81 set up) How? Well, as the rotor gets wider and the caliper is fit, the outside of the caliper moves with the DECREASE in hat. Confused? Think of it this way; as the rotor grows wider the hat gets narrower, then about half of the difference: 1.10-.810=.300/2=.150 comes outboard, the other increase in width goes inboard.
The caliper chart shows the CONSTANT relation of the caliper body to the rotor. However as the rotor grows wider it's center line comes closer to the wheel due to the shorter/narrower hat which locates it.
The MOST compact of the options is a .81 rotor with the FSL, but the narrow Six only compromises this a small amount. And then you could later do the wider rotors and the narrow six caliper on them if you like. But if you do FSL calipers you are stuck with only .81 rotors.....the six is made for the 1.10 only but then fit with fatter pads to fit the .81 rotor. There is NO narrow six really for the .81 or it would be the best of all worlds given the relationship of 2.15 vs 1.91 would be constant. That's why on the 1.10 the FSL is fatter than a BSL6n, but on a .81 the 6 is a touch fatter than the FSL."

seeing as the 12.2" and the 13" road race kits for the front are the same price, i just got the 13" kit.
