Alright i already blasted the wheels with aicrft stripper, removed most of the coating, i then sprayed them with automotive sandable primer and sanded them down to look even. Now my question: Can i use any type of paint( gunmetal like color) or do i have to use the duplicolor wheel paint?

I mean the duplicolor is 5 bucks a can, and a regular metal looking enamel paint is like $3, not much of a difference but the duplicolor color ain't that cool, i was wondering if i could use other kind of paint: engine paint, car touch-up paint etc. since the wheels are primed and sanded.

Also can i use regular clear coat? or does it have to be duplicolor rim clear??

Thanks!!!

As far as I can guess, it won't matter what you use. I'm sure those special blends just have nicest looking finish for wheels. That doesn't mean something cheaper doesn't too. They also might be more durable???

the duplicolor wheel paint is some pretty rugged stuff. I'd recommend it. I'm going to be using gumetal on my stockers.. as soon as i get off my bum and buy it all..

You know that Dupli-Color Graphite Wheel Paint? Well my friend Jordan with a 90 Laser RS Turbo FWD wanted to paint his car that color. So Saturday night he bought 7 cans of it and we painted it that color. We sanded the entire car, and sprayed it in his barn. I have already painted cars with a gun before. He did not want to primer the car at all. I yelled at him for it for being retarded. I told him that I would sand it, primer it, sand it again, shoot the paint, then wet sand all for free. But he just wanted it done. He did the masking and I did the sanding/painting. He just wanted a half ass-job. So I let him make his own mistake. Sorry if I took over the thread.. Just wanted to share. I'll get pics sometimes of his Laser.
