Where to hide an amp? False floor boxes for 1g's?

I tried searching for the false floor boxes for the backs of a 1g, one to fit around the wheel hump, or maybe one that'll fit to the left or right but I can't find anytying. Did you guys make them or have them custom made? Where can you safely mount an amp out of sight? Behind any of the paneling would it get to hot? I don't want it in plain view. Any ideas? I'm more worried about the heat getting to something than anything else.

of what's been done? doesn't it create to much heat there? are you talking under the foam?

It's a 500W Sony turned all the way down to Minimum sitting on top of the carpet & slid barely under the seat foam - S.C. is ALMOST as hot as Texas... It doesn't take much (200W to the Subs?) plus the main Amp for the other 6 damn speakers - With these Hatchbacks - it's like being in the Trunk of a car - Still blows you out of the thing...

Since really the only place the heat has to go it out the front? I always assumed the foam would melt with to much heat...what kinda box you got?

sorry, ok the passenger seat, oopsie, guess it'd be ok just to slide under there. Even a good deck can't push more than what like 75 watts MAX per 4 channels? We got 6 speakers, front 200 watt, door 200 watt, rear 200 watt, at 50 watts x 4 channels which is what I got that ain't real loud. I need some pics of false boxes for the rear. People talk about them but I havent see one yet. Something that fits over the hump, maybe only a few inches but on the left and right it's big enough to hold the sub so it'll base yet not noticeable from the outside looking in....

im not sure how it is with a 1G, but maybe this can work. you can sink it into the back seat, the vertical part. i know it'll work with my 2Gb, not sure about yours tho. but its an idea

Does that become a factor? I know amps dont like to get to hot, I think maybe under the passenget seat is best temporarily...

If the amps aren't too big... you can mount them on or under the rear parcel shelf. I am mounting mine on top and I've made a carpeted plexiglass cover to cover it all. Hope to have it all done in a week or so... but not sure. So much to do to this old car, including replacing the ecu caps. And then there's the problem of what to do with the sub... looks like custom fiberglass job is the only way to go, but cost more than I care to spend.

Its not pretty yet, but heres my current project. When I am done, I plan to have the whole trunk usable and hidden under some shelf ..........

Jepherz... nice sub.

So have you given some thought to what I mentioned before privately? That sub is basically what I have in mind except it would have to work with the spare hump and be removeable in case I need to get the jack and spare out.

My Infinity 10 only needs .60 cu. ft. sealed. So it'd probably be smaller than what you made. Plus, I've got plenty of ployfill I can use to make an even smaller box seem bigger.

Anyone know if the hatch floors are the same between the N/T, FWD, and AWD cars?

My AWD has the spare tire hump... wondering if other cars have it too. I'm guessing it's just specific to the AWDs.

Closer to the topic, I was looking at the rear parcel shelf yesterday... and while it is plenty strong to hold two small amps, I noticed the metal framework is attached to the carpeted fiberboard by rivets. I think if you drill out the rivets and separate the framework and the fiberboard, you can probably reuse the frame work and build the shelf out of plex. You can then have amp racks built right into the plex either on top or below. Plex would definitly be stiffer than the stock fiberboard. Plex comes in several colors and different degrees of transparency. Smoked would look pretty good. Or you can cover the whole thing in carpet to make it look like stock. You can even route slots add on metal mesh grills for ventilation. Plex is pretty easy to cut with a Dremel or Rotozip. Most plastic shops (like Tap) sells it by the sheet. Home improvement stores have it too but their selection is limited to clear.

The hump in the trunk is a feature of the AWDs. I had a 90 GSX and I ended up having to remove the back seats to fit my sound system. A friend that had a 93 GST had like twice the trunk room.

What the hell where they thing puting a spare like that in the trunk , They should bolt it on the roof like some old ugly ass jeep

the sub box actually sits fairly low seeing that it sinks into the spare wheel well for the needed airspace, and the amps sits in back half of the wheelwell. now if your looking for something for an AWD, it'd be fairly easy to do the same thing by building a false floor at the same height as the top of the 'hump'

good luck with the project!
