i found a cheap T25 from a friend of mines brother for my 99 gs. I want to bolt it on, but reliablity is a huge factor, mostly cause of my dad. I was wondering if i kept it at relativly low boost levels, around 4-6psi, if it would be reliable for daily street driving with stock internals and stock injectors. If i took the proper precautions and get a boost controller to keep the psi low, will the car be reliable and last me a while???

You say your getting this from a 99 GS? Well considering the GS model did not come with a turbo from the factory, Either he put a custom kit together for his car i.e manifold, piping, fuel system, etc or he has a gst at which point nothing can bolt on. If thats the case, you would have to be the one to do all the custom kit work. And unless you know a ton about building and tuning a turbo system, dont do it.

yeah what he said^

if you have the 420a your gonna need a kit to go turbo, either a kit or your gonna have to buy a bunch of different parts to go turbo, all the different intake pipes, Bov, intercooler, all the exhaust parts,manifold,O2housing......oil/coolant lines....fuel stufff.......you prolly just wanna get a kit if your going turbo

No im getting this for my 99gs. my friends brother has a 96 gst and its the stock turbo that came on it, he is just upgrading all his stuff like hes getting a 20g and the greddy fmic and all of his piping. would i be able to use any of his old piping or other equipment or not? and he said his friend that specializes in turbos would install it for me, im not sure how much but im sure it will be cheap.

the 4g63 and 420a are way different, they arnt even on the same side of the engine bay. if you got all his turbo stuff and did sum serious hacking with the pipes and since you cant really use any of his turbo exhaust stuff so you would prolly need to get a manifold that would fit, o2 housing, downpipe and i bet alot of the exhaust stuff would have to be custom......after that you could maybe do it but i think your still gonna need stuff for the fuel, boost, etc now your getting into big $$$

you prolly could get his friend that specializes in turbos to install it all for you(more $$$$), but after its all said and done i bet its gonna cost alot more then a turbo kit, that would be better then the stock stuff anyway, so whats the point?

Almost no engine parts from a gst are compatible with the gs. The turbo is compatable with any car, but you have to have a manifold that can bolt to your block and to the turbo. You CANNOT use a gst manifold on the non-turbo block. Non of the intercooler piping will work due to the fact that when you custom build a manifold, where it sits is completly opposite of where the gst manifold and turbo sit. Plus the throttle body sits on the opposite side of the block. Everything is different between the turbo and non-turbo blocks. Trust Me. The Best way to turbo the non-turbo engine is to buy a kit.

it's funny tho... for the price of one of those "turbo kits" you could just get another car i.e. 1g turbo dsm and have a "poor mans sports" car and keep your GS for your "good everyday car" :thumb:

ya i dont have $2,000 to spend so i was hoping that buying the turbo for cheap would save me money but i guess it wont. ill talk to the turbo guy but ill probably scrap the idea. thanks for your help!

but then u gotta pay for insurance, gas, maintenance.. etc.

all you have to do is get the exhasut manifold and make your wn intake piping... you can even get the intake piping from greddy, hks, etc... hahn is hte easy way out IMO.. have a look at some of the DSM Tuners sponser sites... enough looking around and youll find everything you need...

the best part is that the 420 can hold alot mroe boost then the non-turbo 4g63's.. i say go for it and enjoy...

Exhaust manifolds are not swappable, unless you have a welder and dont mind some custom fabrication then you'd be better off getting a custom one made.

Hahn is the easy way out, haha!!!
