Well I was sitting on the crapper this morning getting down to business while looking through a few old Import Tuner magazines, when what do I find?? The two features on both turbo kits that actually gave me the idea to turbo my car! While there is nothing in these two articles we don't already know, it's interesting to see these nonetheless. Thought I would take the liberty of scanning/posting these so they will always be readily archived.

STAR PERFORMANCE FEATURE (had to shrink image because of size)

It says the following:

"Here's an answer to non-turbo Eclipse owners looking to upgrade power output. The kit includes a t034/t3 hybrid turbocharger, cast-iron header, external wastegate, HKS bypass valve and chromed piping. A boost-dependent fuel pressure regulator and 255-lph in-tank fuel pump handle fuel enrichment. A Stage 2 upgrade is available, which adds a front-mount intercooler to the system. Also available as upgrades are a t04E turbo and either a GReddy Type S or HKS Super Sequential blow-off valve. While the naturally aspirated A420 engine has been proven to handle the stresses of forced induction, the key here is running premium fuel and not cranking boost past the kit's manufacturers recommended levels."

Dyno is @ Stage I and reads 176.8whp@6000rpm.

No, but the Star kit got a full page and the Hahn didn't :D Kidding around there (before a posting eruption occurs). Both kits are quite a bit different.. still both are equal in my eyes because of their own unique benefits.

Well i have been considering a turbo kit, and after closly looking at those articles, it says that they are NOT 50 state smog legal!! I live in Utah where we have to pass Emmisions and inspections etc. Does that mean I wouldnt pass if I added a turbo kit??

 :(

Yes, all dyno's are to the wheels... In order to get the crankshaft HP you have to calculate a formula accounting for the drivetrain loss of power. That was only Stage I (non-intercooled), probably at 5psi. Your magazine is probably the issue that came out a year after, I have that one somewhere but didn't want to dig through my stack of magazines to find it. Star setups will always out-dyno Hahn's at the same boost level.. It's just common flow rating math - the t3/t4 has more top end flow then a 16g.. If you have the Hahn kit with the optional 20g then dyno's will probably be very similar.

I could probably meet up with you in Pasco sometime, infamous.. I live only a few hours away from the tri-cities. I will show you what the Star kit is capable of doing on a stock block.
