Alright boys. Just wanted to share my enthusiasm with you all. I will soon be running very high amounts of boost on my brand new turbo block. I'm just waiting for a few gaskets which are on it's way tonight and I can assemble the flywheel side of the block. The timing side is already done.

16G turbo, ported compressor housing and an upgraded flapper to a 34mm. Kinetic Racing FMIC kit (great guys btw). HKS 264/264 cams. All new timing accessories. 2G MAS. VDO boost guage. Datalogger. 1G modified BOV. SAFC. VR4 180LP pump (rewired). ACT 2100lb N/T clutch for my n/t tranny. Extreme MBC. 550cc injectors. 3" turbo-back exhaust (minus the 2G O2 sensor housing).

Making a long story short. My n/t engine is out and my turbo engine should be ready very soon.

glad to see you guys are getting things done. i just re-installed the crank the other day and am working on getting the lsd back into my new tranny and looking around at what i'm going to do with my slightly fubared 16g.

of course along the way i'm also picking up a spare car to drive daily so that the talon can become a full time project car.

I'll be putting on the head today if all goes as plan.

Plan: Wire the knock sensor into the ECU at the correct pin #. Buy a 14mm wrench so I can get the engine mount secure.

Then set up the arp head studs and drop the head w/ intake manifold on the block.

Lol. Nothing like that sudden jerk from fuel cut like your car is dead.

Head with ARP bolts is on. Also, 2G exhuast manifold, 2G O2 sensor housing and my 16G turbo. Tomorrow goes on my FMIC. I should be ready by the end of this upcoming week. It's about freakin' time.

well i just recently figured out a 10x easier way to build endtanks for my "poorman's fmic" and once i get a small section of 2 1/2" aluminum piping for the endtanks i'll have it installed (shooting for mid september hopefully)

at the same time i've been contemplating having a local place powdercoat my rims in bronze.

oh and here's a new picture of my new engine.

Is that a DSM on jackstands in the background? No way.
I'm getting my rims powder coated as well but right now I'm hacking my bumper to fit my FMIC. What a bi***, I must say. This thing is huge. I just ran out of cutoff disks and I have no car to go to the Hardware store.

plasma cutter is the best way to get it done.

here's a quick p-shop of how i want the rims to turn out, still can't decide on whether i should use the chrome or the blue center caps i have. ( i even have matching lugnuts depending on which i choose, i'm such a ricer)

Damm that is a really nice engine. I wish mine looked like that. Mine is just laying on the garage floor along with all my other turbo doo dads.

Alright. Got a lot of shit done this past week and my projection date for operation is Wednesday August 13. I won't have the 3" exhaust on yet but it will soon come.

I just need to clean up the interior (do the ECU wiring), set up my BOV, battery and rad install (minus the driver side fan), take off the rusty exhaust bolts with a dremel so I can get the turbo downpipe welded on (don't ask, my car doesn't have a f*cking flange), make the custom filter adapter for my 2G MAS, install the valve cover and plug wires, finish bolting my front bumper up, fix my hood latch system (my hood won't f*cking close. It closes and catches but it won't lock down), yell at my car a bit and install the 90 style oil cooler.

have you got it done yet??????? any pics????? i'm still contemplating turboing my engine....can't wait to see how yours turns out.
what kind of boost will you be running? and what pistons are you running?

Yeah. I got her running for 30 seconds. Then a whinning occured. Followed by smoke and a shut down.

Oil pump locked. T-belt skipped. 4 valves bent.

Took it all apart today (head and oil pump) in 5 hours. Off to the machine shop tomorrow.

ouch!!!!!why did it stop?...sucks about the bent valves, but that just means its time to replace them with a nice set!!!! haha
did you set the belt right???(the tensioner) its a bi*** to set up and all.

10 days after the initial repairs and the beast is running. I can't wait to seat the piston rings, repair the tiny leaks and issue tomorrow. I'm going to take it easy and do many oil changes, but for now I must get those rings seated.

I am not getting coolant to my turbo though. No water is coming through. Anyone know what a problem could be?

You are using the stock coolant plumbing for the turbo right?

If so all I can think of is a possible blockage or kink. Or just a massive leak before it hits the turbo but that would be obvious.

Can you take a picture of the coolant line setup for you? Maybe we could spot something wrong.

It's Good to see you got it running again TimG. How do you know that no water is reaching the turbo? U might wanna look at the thermostat or at worst the water pump. If no water is reaching the turbo, it's probably not circulating at all, assuming none of your coolant lines are bent up.
Well, I should have my car running next week!! I've got the turbo block in the car, but still need to install the transmission, new axles, reconnect the wiring, and after that im basically done. FIRE IT UP!! I went the JDM route on the long block from Rising Sun Engines , so hopefully i didn't get screwed. But researching it shows them as a very good company that do lots of testing on their engines. I'll know next week.
So those of you that are finished- do you smile everytime you get inside your car? :D Do you think it was worth all the time, effort, and $$$$? I hope so, and I'll tell you guys how it goes. Peace. :talon:

trust me its worth it :)

my personal favorite is roasting 2nd gear (still waiting to get the phantom grip back in my new tranny) while pulling away next to almost any other import and a few v8's. of course i need to get my 16g either rebuilt or replaced in order to dispatch with most v8's especially those pesky ls1's.

I got coolant flowing to the turbo. It was leaking at the t-state upper/lower gasket (I didn't notice at first). Now I have most of the oil leaks fixed (except for a small one outta the oil pan. Easy fix. Drop it on that side, RTV it and secure it again.

Heres the bigger issue though. Sorry if this is crossposting, I'm too lazy to type a new one and copying and pasting it would be too easy. :p
