yup..

i was at the track all day (1/8 mile). i ran a 9.6, which is great considering how i was running a 12.8 as an NT..

Anyway, I was driving back from the track with some friends doing about 120mph.. When I got back to my town, I stopped at a light and noticed the car wasn't idling properly. It was still running, just not correctly. I pulled into a gas station, popped the hood and then enjoyed the lovely smell of oil burning. ;)

Anyway, the head gasket on the passenger side, rear of the engine blew out (right where Mitusbishi says it will). There is no damage to the engine besides the oil leak.

My new advice would be to go ahead and swap out your head gasket along with every other gasket before you turbo the car. Napa has a multi layered steel head gasket for about $60. Mitsubishi recommends it and uses it as a replacement, but their's costs about $110. Make sure you get new head studs when you do this.

Ill have some mpg's of the track later this week that I will post in the about thread about HAHN videos and sounds.

ttiracing makes a nice thick headgasket that claims to lower your comp almost 1 point. It's a good replacement I imagine for someone who doens't quit have the money to rebuild yet.

ive already ordered and received a complete gasket set for the engine including timing belt.

15.0 or so in the 1/4.

There are 3 420A NT's around here and all 3 went 10.1-10.3 in the 1/8th. One of the 10.1's was actually a Sebring. None of them have anything but bolt-ons.

i think i could break into 8's personally...

tonight, we found that it wasn't my head gasket that blew.. the head gasket was in perfect shape, the cylinders are perfect.. we are looking for other explainations now..

looks like we are going to port and polish the head along with add some other goodies while we have it apart.

You arent getting into the 8's unless you turn up the boost or get some other power adders. You need to get your exhaust done.

i think i can get into the 8s as long as i can keep from spinning in 1st and 2n gear at the track.

even at 9.6 i was spinning in 1st and 2nd. im sure that if i had better launches with more traction that i would get into the 8s. you are only talking 6, tenths of a second. im sure i waste that amount of time on the launch by spinning the tires..

You would be surprised how hard it is to drop 6 tenths of a second. With drag radials maybe but you are talking there are guys with built 420s that are getting high 8s.

I ran a 9.89 in the 1/8th mile w/ a 15.46 1/4 mile time NA :) the turbo NTs are normally close with my times for the 1/8th but once they get past that point and stop spinning their times drop dramatically.

U must have hella mods to run a 9.8 for an NA. I would like to see a slip on that. I just have a hard time believing that an N/A can run a better 8th then a stock turbo.

ROLMFAO accually it can get into the 9's NA, see the REAL problem lies in that you turbo guys just don't get that stock, YOU ARE SLOW!!!

I've got a guy in my club with an NA 2g 97 running consistant 9.8's in the 1/8. BTW that's on Nitto 555's but hey not bad none the less!!! Yes it's possible and it's done quite frequently.

ok, but like I said, that is with hella mods, not stock. So show me the slip with a NA stock running high 9's in the 8th and I will give some respect. :D

Yeah, dont worry bout me. I am the one who thinks I can get into the 8's with tires and an exhaust, oh wait, no that was you SIUEclipse. James(siueclipse) thinks he knows everything so listen to what he says, thats why he blew up his head gasket. WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!:thumb: :barf: ;)

I dont think you will beat him to the 8s....all he has to do is turn a little knob on his BC and you have to rebuild your engine.......

ok, but I am just curious, please tell us what you used to port and polish your head james? Did you send it to a shop, a real shop, with the right equipment or did you use a dremmal??? Or better yet, maybe you got some sand and threw it in the intake and ran the car thinking that it might do it by it self. Just curious. :D I have said nothing about AWD Vs. FWD so dont make that a part of this topic.
