At least it was at one point. Found my smoking issue, I rolled in a new set of bearings and when I put it back together it was smoking terribly and spraying oil out of the hotside. I know why. Just thought i'd share with everyone.

It was starved of oil and had excessive play. Like almost 1/4 inch on the hot side.

I looked and the wheel shows no sign of contact. It's in front of my tv to look at.

The drain is straight down. Only goes level right when it goes into the oil pan. I am not running a restrictor. Only 1/8inch stainless feed and 3/8 trans cooler line for the return.

Right where the hotside bearing rides there is a decent sized groove.

Huge problem there....your drain is horribly undersized.

That would cause the oil to push past the turbine seal, as evident by the outward-slung oil streaks on the backside of the turbine wheel. From there the exhaust heat and pressure would be able to make it's way into the cartridge, burning the oil that is supposed to be lubricating the journal bearing on the turbine wheel side, and discoloring the shaft as well.

I'm willing to bet the compressor-side journal bearing was much less worn than the turbine-side bearing....and this is the reason.

Ok, so I need to steep it up. I just did this size because I had seen it done beforehand with out issue. So about how large would I be? Will 1/2" suffice?

I guess I will have to see what I can do. I followed the write up on here and had a 1/2 inch bung welded on. Whelps ill give it the old college try.
