ok so my wastegate is piped back into my downpipe and i was wondering if this will affet my air fuel ratios in a bad way?? i used to have it dump to open atmosphere but it made everything under the hood turn black and grimmy so i plumbed it into my downpipe. is that a good thing or bad thing when it comes to running a wideband???

dude I have been building my car for a year and I haven't got to drive my car yet and was wondering how the open dump 420a sounds I AM SO CURIOUS do you have and vids or whats your opinion on how it sounds???????

in my opinion it sounded like crap!! it sounded like a bad exhaust leak every time the wastegate opened. i havent run my car for about two years cause I had it turboed with stock internals before and since ive built the motor it has been a when i can afford it project. but in my opinion it was not a good sound. plus it makes everything very dirty. and when everything is dirty it is not fun to open the hood and see a black film on everything. just my opinion but i dont know many people that like a dirty engine bay.

They do sound bad, I never liked the way they sounded either. stock O2 housing on 4G63 dumps it in the exhaust your safe, I have the Tial external that dumps back in the exhaust it works well and is not loud.

yeah ive boosted a few times witht his car with the dump to the DP and I didnt even hear it dumping at all!! 3" straight off the turbo on out so not a sound issue at all over the rest of the noise coming out of it!! LOL I just had a crazy brain fart about dumping that exhaust back at the wideband and thought id ask. by the way CHAR-FT I like the smooth look of the stock black GST!!! Nice car! i need to post pics of my car. its suede black and I took the wing off. but i got a really ugly front kit bumber and a junk rear bumper too. the car got smashed so i took what was available for cheap to get it back on the road.

I have an open dump and have no complaints. Although, sounds are the last thing I could give a shit about.
I doubt throwing the "dumped" exhaust back into the rest of the stream would be good. All of the exhaust pulses are taking one path, through the turbo; once some of them start being "dumped" they're taking another path (a shorter path) and then as they re-enter they interrupt the steady stream exiting the turbo. I doubt this helps scavenging at all. Although, I also doubt this has any significant repercussion.
On the other side of things, I'm sure dumping the exhaust into the engine bay (depending on the positioning of your wastegate) won't help underhood or intake temps at all.

+1 I've been dumping to my bay for a while, straight off of the wastegate, and I don't have any black soot. Look at my bay pic in my gallery. If you have black soot all over your bay, then you've got some nasty things going on.... Look at my header wrap on my downpipe...

I've got mine recirculated down by where it runs under the oil pan,it was quite a bit of work but i like it alot better than an open dump.

i had the open dump when I jad just switched over to the 550's so that was probably where the black came from. either way I dont like the sound of an open dump. to me it sounds horrible. just my opinion though.

so every open dump sounds bad to you or just 420a open dump.....

Delta9 does the 420a dump sounds like the 4g63 dump or different?

Oh goodness, I wouldn't trade my open dump sound for anything! I love it...Just lets other cars know you mean business ;). I also go right off the wastegate and don't have any issues with black soot (though the bay temps obviously are hotter). I'll try to post up a video tomorrow.

i am eventually going for the sleeper style so i dont want any noise coming from under the hood except blow off valve. im even keeping drum brakes in the rear just to set people off thinking my car is just another rs.

Dude sleeper is the only way to go on 2g.. Who wants a massive bumper on a 2g to plow snow with. anyways if you have a front mount they are gonna think its a 4g63..who would turbo a non turbo eclipse when their is a stock turbo eclipse????? even know the 420a has an amazing sound and 4g63 sounds like a 67 year old vagina queefin..

Ha ha ha :thumb:

I love it...And agree 100%. It's hard to hide the front mount. I've seen some guys paint them black and that's a good way to kind of hide it, but keep that GS/ESI sticker and no one will suspect a thing ;)

all emblems and everything are shaved off the car and the wing is gone too. I crashed the car so i cut the core support off and built a custom one that puts my intercooler right in the opening of the front bumper so it is going to be very hard to hide but i came up with an awesome idea. i work at an aluminum extrusion and machining shop and we send out all kinds of stuff to get anodized so im going to anodize it black!!!! then put an aluminum grill in front of it and it will disappear! ( i hope)

Or if you are real creative and you want people to think you have a slow turbo 420a just put 2gnt on your plate.. then people behind you will think no turbo ....

just curious .. have you brake boosted with open dump? Does it get loud or what? LOL

guess i dont know what you mean by brake boosted..??

It's when your are at a a roll and hit the brakes and gas at the same time to put load on your engine. You start to build boost because of the extra load without going any faster, which makes for a pretty wicked launch from a roll!

yeah ive done that with an open dump. didnt so much hear the dump as the noise from the center of the stock flexplate tearing out when i launched. then i had good reason to go with a fidanza flywheel and spec stage 3 clutch!!!!! the tow truck cable broke when they were pullin it onto the truck and my car almost got hit by a semi!!!!!! so the towing was free that day!! scary sh*t!!!!
