Star turbo kit?!!

Well i'm just wondering what the actual turbo can hold, if i fully rebuilt my engine, is the turbo capable of 20? - kevin

A T3/T4 turbo is good to around 25psi with the star FMIC, to boost safely on 93 you need to stay around 15-18....absloutly no more, and that implies that you have fuel injectors and some sort of programmable unit to tune! An ignition box would be a good idea as well!

I'm thinking about getting a Star Turbo kit for my RS as well. But I'm not going for that much performance. I was wondering if any one knew the web site I could read up on.

Next, if I were to get the kit how much HP could my stock internals take? I dont' plan on spending too much money after the turbo, that's why... and lastly, how much HP am I looking at?

you can buy the STAR tage II kit off this website i think. it come with a t3/t4 turbonetics turbo and star fmic, plus a lot of other big name products. Star advertised 275whp, but somebody else on here said they dynoed at 249whp. plus adding all the other little mods like ignition coils, nology hot wires, spark plugs, fuel rail, bigger injectors and shiznit like that!!! i myself am going with the star stage II kit just because it's the same stage as hrc yet $700 cheaper. so that's 700 beans you can throw on something else!!!!

You could probably safely hold 10psi but you're going to need a new fuel setup to hold that. On stock internals a 420a can have about 300crank hp, but I still wouldn't want to run that much stock. 10psi will put you in the 215whp-230whp range depending on other mods... you DEFINITELY don't wan to go any higher than 250whp with stock block.

thanks a lot. Now I'll probably get a Star stage 1 kit. Mostly cuz it's cheaper and I'm not looking for extreme power. Plus up here in Montreal you don't see too many beasts, so I just wanna be able to compete. Also can't forget teh exchange rate =p.

But ya, I don't plan on redoing teh engine, so do you think a stage 1 is worth it? Again, thanks a lot. BTW, anyone know if the Star web site is gonna go up anytime soon? or know of another place to get it?

Hey whats up. Im planning on buying The Star Stage II kit and was wondering if the kit came with a boost controller or do i need to buy one? Thanks alot

The turbo kit does not come with a boost controller. However, you can regulate your boost manually by turning a load screw on the wastegate.

I'm not sure what's up with TurboGS.com. Try e-mailing or calling the sales department at RacePrep Engineering (Wyatt's company).

My only complaint thus far has been that the instructions were severely lacking (making the do it yourselfer like me have to struggle to figure things out). We're talking 4 to 5 pages for Star Turbo vs the 15 pages that HRC gives with their kit. Also, the kit's supposed to push about 7psi on stock internals safely. HRC has reported that the stock 420A engine fails around I think it was around 15psi

The Star instructions should be considered complimentary toilet paper sent to you with the kit. It's pretty much just a grocery list of what to do. With a little internet help and common sense it isn't much of a task to tackle however. If you or anyone else needs more specific help with a Star install I will be glad to help.

7psi is a very modest setting for properly intercooled stock internals (surprising, yes). Wyatt Leras drove a Star Stage II turbo kit @ 9-10psi as a daily driver for more than a year with no problems. I have driven my 420a VERY, VERY, VERY HARD @ 7psi for about four months with absolutely no compression loss. That is after racing COUNTLESS Civics (they always want a piece), 14 second all-motor Neon, GSX, GS-T. And also my favorite race, a C5 Corvette from a roll on while at 9psi. The only race I lost was to the Vette' might I add, need those damn internals! :thumb:

I was very worried about my motor @7psi while racing a 95' Z28 in more than a few 70-120+mph runs for about 10 miles of freeway. Something very scary happened! No, not my rod snapping in half! An undercover police officer in an Expedition followed me and my friend in the Z28 from the freeway where we had raced to my house and slapped my buddy and I with a 'Street Racing Citation'. He said if he gave us an actual 'speeding ticket' for the speed we were doing our two cars would be at the impound! He didn't seem too angry, just glad he caught up to us. I never signed one piece of paper or received anything in the mail. I figure he was just watching in amazement the whole time as a 2.0l I-4 Eclipse spanked a 5.7l V8 without a lot of effort from a dozen third gear pulls.

If HRC said the 420a failed at 15psi then I would say go nowhere above 10psi until you upgrade, or you will be taking quite the expensive risk. Also, get those damn bigger injectors that should be included with the 420a turbo kits in the first place. The Accel/HRC 310cc's help so much in such a nonchalant way that I saw 'god' once I installed them. Low to medium throttle power was seriously improved. When I removed my stock injectors it looked as if someone had smoked an ounce of weed through two of them, they were heat-treated and completely toasted!

Well when you think about the stock injectors on the NT engine are what 190cc? Adding a turbo and trying to use those to feed the engine is ridiculous. I have the 310cc injectors going into my engine as soon as I finish off my installation.
