2.2 SLEEVED Stroker build

Howdy howdy partners! So I've just acquired a good block to put a stroker kit into. My ultimate goal is to beat ZERO...no offense man. I plan on going with a Howell stroker kit and having a local shop do the machining for me. I have a question that someone may be able to help me out with. I NEED this block sleeved. Where can i get it done at? I've called several places and I keep getting the same answer: "We do custom sleeving but Darton doesn't sell a kit so we can't." WHAT THE HECK!?!?!? THAT COMPLETELY NEGATES ANYTHING BEING "CUSTOM"!!!!!!! I'm talking 40+ lbs of boost..... and an o-ringed block won't cut it. If anyone *AHEM* Bullet............. might know of a shop that will, let me know ASAP!

I don't know why you'd sleeve a dry, closed-deck iron block, but any machine shop worth a crap should be able to cut and press them for you.

Few things Adam; first off, yes I do know of a shop that would sleeve that for you. My machine shop, Northeast Auto Machine in East Harford Ct, 860-282-8181. They do all my work (shameless plug).

Now that I've answered your original question, second thing; our blocks do not need sleeves. The only reason that you would sleeve one of our blocks, is if there was damage and you could not find another block to play with. I'm thinking that you got the idea from Honda ownership or Honda techs (I'm not saying this in a derogatory manner. Just figuring from experience). Our blocks are a whole different design.

The area in our set-ups that is the "weak point" for our cars and boost would be the headgasket area. There has been a myth that at 400whp our heads float. I don't believe that (I suspect that neither does Zero or Awddynamite. All of us over 400whp). You want to boost 40lbs? Of course the question becomes 40lbs on what trubo? Regardless, I'm not so sure that you will need any O-ringing, but I can't really say for sure. Maybe just ARP'S or go L19's. If you are nervous about it then go ahead and O-ring. The next step up from there would be filling the block, not sleeving it.

In addition, you are fully aware that if you go stroker, you now have a different animal than us 2.0 guys .

Well then.... Thank you for the shop info man, I appreciate it. However, given your response, I think I shant be sleeving it. You're close to right about honda ownership. I hang out with a small group of honda owners. (which by the way still can't beat me) I do like the idea of filling the block. My grandpa used to be into the old school drag cars, and he would talk about fillling their blocks with cement. I never thought about doing that. Not that I'd go get some quickcrete and just start mixing up a batch. I know what ARP's are (just purchased and installed) but what are L19's? and I've got a great deal on an XS power T3/T4 T70. 300 bucks. It's supposed to be good for up to 45 lbs of boost but I suppose I haven't checked it's maps yet to know for sure. If I go stroker, does it still count as a 420a? I just got kicked out of the local DSM club for getting into it with Mavis and a couple others for hatin' on the 420A, and I want to be able to throw it in their face at Muncie next season. I got the comment that I should go for the stock block record before I go for a built block record, so after I get MSII in September, I'm getting some 1000cc injectors, a 1:1 and meth. I gotta see what I can push the stock block to do.

Might wanna go bigger then 1,000cc. I have mine max out @ 25psi on a gt35r.

Might want to stay away from an off brand turbo if you want to boost 40 psi, and start looking into some custom cams, custom manifolds, crazy port work, 40 psi is alot to spool up it can be done but your looking at 15k build on a 2gnt to make a reliable car that can handle that kind of boost.

A four's not putting the stress on the lower half of the block that a V engine is. You're going to be having to produce many thousands of dollars' worth of power before you'd need to fill the block on one.

Good to know man. I think I saw that Zero's got some 1650's. I was planning on the 1000's for my stock project, but on a stock block I'll never need that kind of squirting power... or would I?

For my stroker build, should I go for some 2000's and tune them? Do they even make them that big?

I'm hoping for a 2 year build time. We'll see what I'm able to pull out of my arse for the 2012 season. As far as 2010, I'm going for a stock block record. The block that I've been running still has less that 70,000 miles on it and was in pristine condition before I turbo'd and after redoing the head bolts and top end gaskets, I'm still at 200psi across the board on a comp. test. I'm hooking up MSII at the end of October for credit in my Engine Elec. and my Engine Performance class. Actually, all the work I'm doing in the coming months, will be done for class credit.

Thanks for all the Links guys. Really appreciated. Especially the block filling links. I have alot to plan and think about. It always helps to have the gurus chime in.

On a side note: Defiant, where do I sart posting build progress? I don't want to take up valuable question answering space.
