what psi were you runnin when your stock engine blew?

I was running 7 on the Star kit turbo (t3/t04b), when I had way to much fuel coming into the motor and then the head gasket went and I washed out the rings in cylinders 1 and 2. I already had my spare block at the machine shop so it was just an excuse to drop it in faster.

8psi spiking at 10 no FCD or missing link leaned me out and I blew two rings never again

5 spiked to about 20 before the ring lands dissapeared. I have a external wastegate with a banjo fitting for the vac. line got loose. I stepped on it on the highway and it pulled hard. Then it went boom.

Profile says Star.. nice set-up

if we're talking about lilbayz then unless if star is spelt h-a-h-n I don't see it. I can even see from the tiny ass pic he has that it's a hahn kit. ;) maybe we're looking at different people LOL

Children Children, can't we all get along? hehe jp. On my GSX I was around 17-18psi spiking about 20-23 during minor crankwalking and racing a 350V8 Fiero GT when the engine went kaboom.... There was massive oil inside the turbo so I think I screwed up the bearings in the turbo also... but that was years ago... I hope a smooth transaction to Turbo my 420A will go!

yes sir, i was looking at the wrong person.

but to my understanding, hahn and star are practically the same turbo. the hahn turbo i have is capable of 35 psi of boost. im pretty shir ill have far too many speeding tickets by then to ever even think about boostin higher than that. I mean dam thats over 3 times what im boostin now. and p.s. i was going to buy a star turbo kit until i called overboost.com and found out they aren't even a functioning business anymore. and i didn't know anywhere else that carried stars so I just went with a hahn. and to tell you the truth i am overall pretty satisfied with the kit even though it was a lil pricey. their fmic is the best looking and best quality one i have seen. also i am glad i got the hahn over the star becuase of hahn's technical support. i have taken advantage of it more than once whereas i have heard star has no technical support. dam i wrote alot

i installed my forge manual boost controller tonight. its got me so confused. its crazy ### before i had it my 1st gear would boost max 6psi, 2nd gear 7psi, 3rd about 8, and i once got it up to 9psi in 5th. now that the boost controllers installed, i boost 8-8.5 psi throughout all of my gears. no more in 5th gear than in 1st. but i turn the boost controller up more, and it just stays the same. i ordered this boost controller:http://www.slowboyracing.com//more.php?id=2441& and installed it based on this diagram:http://www.slowboyracing.com/downloads/extras/BoostControllerCheat/SBR-controller-cheat.jpg. could anybody tell me why this is happening and most importantly why the boost isnt goin up anymore? oh and it is running fantastic at least for my standards. better than ever

Well looking at the boost controller on the website, are you sure you didn't install the line going to the turbo on the worng side? (one side is used for the in car setup.)

P.S. the star kit turbo and the hahn turbo are not the same.......

My exhaust manifold is from hahn... but it is cast iron...

yeah well my dad can beat up your dad!

Sorry I had to! Talon, how is the manifold? Like the quality. Yes I know its HRC... but your own personal opinion vs. the money spent. I just aquired a knockoff treadstone manifold and my personal opinion is it is nicer work then the actual treadstone. But I love the looks of the HRC manifold as well.

I love my hahn setup, I only went hahn because I bought a setup off a guy on ebay a while back and it was the complete hahn stage setup, but for $1000's of dollars less. I was very satisfied with their technical support, and still am. Honestly, I would have went the route of the star turbo kit if I didn't come across the deal that I had.

The manifold is a rock! I have put in my fair share of runs and that manifold glows bright red when I finish; no signs of any warpage or problems though. Then again, I have never heard any problems with star's kit quality at all. Only complaint I have heard is their support, or lack of it...

Two common complaints:
The downpipe, although a full downpipe unlike HRC's partial that comes with the stage I/II kits, lacks a flex section which has caused some peoples exhaust manifolds to crack.

The FMIC is pretty damn small.

Which kit are you referring to? Just curious

Thanks

star mani has worked great for me and i have boosted 27psi without blowing anything but an intercooler coupler and a diff!!!:thumb:

yeah the thing I posted about the downpipe sometimes causing the manifold to crack was just what I have heard, but I got my star kit used and the downpipe didn't have a flex section. Who knows how many miles it was like that. Then I tapped the manifold for an egt gauge and have driven 15k miles with the downpipe flex-sectionless and have not had problems with it resulting in my manifold cracking. So maybe it was just a luck thing or maybe the manifolds where beefier at some point in production. I'm too lazy to get the flex section especially now that treadstone makes the same manifold it's not like I'd have to go nuts searching for one if mine did in fact break.

I got lucky...I was driving with my star manifold and instead of the manifold cracking the downpipe cracked first (at the turbo flange). So I routed to wastegate dump tube to the downpipe re welded the pipe, braced it a lot better.

I do have a flex section but with the twist and turns in the star downpipe I dont' think its where I would like it to be exactly, but the bracing does its job. Plus I have like 3 different 02 bungs which makes it hard to cut into.

Maybe this is why mine has held up without a problem? The wastegate dump tube is welded into the downpipe.
