I don't post much because I actually use the SEARCH button, but this I just could not find.

I rebuilt my engine using the howell bottom end kit with 8.6:1 forged pistons and my car has been running great for 16K now but I wanted to know one thing. Those of you with the same set up, dose your idle seen load and ruff like a diesel truck? Mine has been like this from day one.

The idle is strong and never stalls but I was wandering if its do to the fact that forged pistons are smaller due to expansion in combination with the lower compression and stock fuel pressure/injectors?

Also would using safc to lean out only the idle help? Would anything help?

Background I don't have the turbo/portfueler on it right now (thanks to the wife) so its not that. The stock header, exhaust, etc is on it now.

Thanks for your input.

Forged pistons should not affect your idle at all, you have issues somewhere else.

Check for vac leaks.

Look at your boost gauge and if it shows vacume make sure its not unusual then before you went with the bottom end rebuild.

Check all intercooler pipes and make sure the couplers are on tight.

Okay well check on the vac lines going to the intake manifold.

And if you can get a fuel pressure tester and plug it into the test port on the fuel rail.
See what your idle fuel pressure.

Brian-

are you telling us that your running rich on idle?

another question that might sound wierd is does your exhaust sound normal on idle like
a steady hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm or is it more like

mm.mm.mm.mm.mm.mm.mm.mm.mm.mm.(fast lope) sorry if i confused you its a serious question to help diagnose your problem.

I don't know if its running rich at idle. I just thought it might be since the compretion is lowered and mayby it dosn't want as much fuel. I don't know.

I know what you mean about the idle but is seams to be steady, at least to me any way.

If it helps, it idles between 800 and 1100.

Thanks-
