ok guys, on my journey to turbo the 420A, i know i need new internals and all, was wondering what kind everyone else has used that has turbo'd their 420A, i believe ive looked at Eagle Rods, for bout $600, could've been something differnt though, was jus wondering wut everyone else went with. :dsm: :thumb:

How much boost are you trying to get? If you arent going to push more than 7lbs, then dont worry about the rebuild quite yet. But hahn racecraft sells all of the things needed to do the rebuild, or you can buy the kit from howell. good luck!

i bought the performance long rod bottom end kit from howell. comes with everything that you need. it ran me 999.95 shipped. you get free shipping if you order online. i thought it was a good deal with everything that comes with. plus the long rod kit is cheaper then the standard rod kit, which is great becuae the long rod is suppose to give more torque.

i realize i dont need to rebuild quite yet if im not gonna run much more than 5 or 6, which is what i plan on starting out on, but i was just wondering what everyone else used/has, and was just kinda looking around price wise :dsm:

just a few options for rods. You should look around for the most competitive price, good luck :thumb:

LOL, like i said, i could be wrong, was a loooong time ago when i looked, was tryin to think of the price i saw, guess i was a little off. anwayz, other than rods, what all would you need internal wise to handle more boost, i had it written down somewhere, but cant seem to find it  thnks for the info :thumb: :dsm:

well besides forged rods youll need forged pistons too. also changin out the oil pump, gaskets, seals, etc..... thats why its best to just order a performace kit, that way you know it comes with everything that youll need. I;v checked alot of sites and i think Howell has the best prices.

so, the performance kit, is that seperate from the turbo kit? i havent looked into a performance kit, but maybe i will now :dsm:

Yes, the bottom end kit is completely different from the turbo kit. check out howell, they seem to be the best company for all of that.

yea deffinatly check Howell out, like i said if you order anything order it online cuase you get free shipping and it will save you some $$$. but you can always call and talk to any of the techs they all know what they are talking about and can answer any questions you might have.

makes the stroke longer and gives you more torque i think?
Rod length won't affect stroke length, you need to change crankshafts for that. It will change the rod angle. You adjust compression by changing the pistons' pin heighth or by decking the block, shaving the head, or (slightly) by head gasket choice..

so does it give you any gains?

While it is done, long rods on a turbo application isn't a great idea. Especially if your getting low compression pistons. By lengthening your rods, you increase compression. If your building an all motor engine long rods are great, but if your turboing I wouldn't get them.

I have a question that is partially related. Is the block of the 420a, iron or aluminum? I know the head is aluminum. I want to know if it takes sleeves(like most aluminum blocks)
