Alright, if the name doesn't give it away, I drive a 96 GS Eclipse.
I was wondering if people could give me tips on how I should prepare for this kit. My car has 151k miles on it and I'm afraid to put a turbo kit on it.. I was planning on swapping out the 420a engine for the 4g63, but then i read another forum and so many people said it was a waste of money and wouldn't work. I searched around for a while and found that I should probably do a compression test, then rebuild my engine with new pistons and rods, then buy the HRC turbo kit. Is that the right thing to do, or is there more I should do?

If I did rebuild the engine with new pistons and rods, then got the turbo kit, about how much horsepower would I be making. And how fast in the 1/4 mile? I plan on doing other things to the engine as well..

Sorry to sound like a newb, I usually don't and I'm not that much of a newb. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

If your compression is good, you can turbocharge no problem I believe but don't go over 9 psi otherwise you are pushing it. Anything over 9 psi you would need new pistons, rings, rods, injectors, ETC.

Estimated horsepower gain is 250-270 hp at 9 psi.

If I were you,
I will do one of boths:
1. Put the turbo run at low boost. And then whenever you or the engine wants do a rebuild. (all that = :) OMG <<< YOU)
2. Rebuild and the put a turbo. But, it is going to be a long time before you have a feeling of power. (Break time, Purchase time. Tune time = Forever)

I will go with step one because I want something a little fast that what i have. I don't want a drag queen (for now). I will go step by step. :p ;)

But againg You got to be sure that your internal, pockets and supports mods are ready for the HUGE change!

Good luck!

I would go with "2" because in the long run you thank yourself and you don't have to worry about the bottom end. As far as option "1" if your blow your engine first, you might have a lot more problems to fix than just the rings/rods/pistons...

Go with #2. What /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ said is true. If you blow your engine, then yyou are looking at replacing the block also, and maybe the head, instead of just replacing the internals.

I turboed my car with 75,000 miles and it was running fine till 112,000 when I just decided to build it.

After you build it, you need to decide what kinda fuel system you want. Either 8 injector, MegaSquirt, larger injectors and Vortech SFMU. It all depends on what you want outta the car at that popint hp -wise.

Building your car is not just put in forged internals and then boost away to 700hp. Figure out what kinda hp you want, then research and do the mods that will get you there ( i.e. fuel system, turbo, etc etc )

Good Luck!

I appreciate all of the advice. Anyone know what kind of 1/4 mile times the HRC kit gives you? Around 9 psi, unless I rebuild with the pistons/rods/etc.. to make more boost. Just curious about the approximate times, thanks.
