I bought a 96' GS Eclipse and I like it and everything except for one thing it has no power!! I'm on a budget until I get out of school and then I'm gonna do an engine swap with a 4g63 stroker 2.3 L from slow boys. I have a couple questions. 1. Can I ever make my motor better than a 4g63 motor? 2. Should I just use a Star Stage 2 turbo kit? 3. Do I need to swap out the ECU or anything like that? I don't feel like lankin the motor out of my car just yet. So i'm just looking to hook it up for a bit until I transplant a new racer in it. So if anyone has any advise for me, drop me a line and hook me up. Cause I might be able to hook you up with a custom paint job someday. Peace.

It has been much disputed..if you want a 4g63 dsm, sell your car and buy one. It is not a pull and drop job. It is extremely involved and more than anything a waste of time and money to swap a 4g63 into a gs. If you want a 4g63 buy a turbo dsm. Otherwise i have heard much luck with turboing 420a motors with a hahnracecraft turbosystem or a star turbosystem.

1. Can you make it better? if your asking a turbocharged 420a can potentially beat a turbo 4g63 car. then yes. If your talking about stock internals with bolt ons on both motors, then no.
2. yes
3. for star turbo kit, no. For a 4g63 swap you better yank out everything if your serious....i mean new clutch, new tranny, new ecu, different motor mounts....the list goes on and on....

You can drop a 4G63t in a 420a DSM - but you'll have 5 gears of reverse and 1 forward. The 420a is oriented backwards to that of a turbo'd DSM. It's not worth the effort.

Feel like doing any actual research?

I'd suggest you go to 2GNT.com and get into the searh utility. You're going to want to read up on the following topics: 2.4, custom turbo. That should give you plenty to do while you decide if you want to stick with the GS or just go the "easy route." :D
