hi i have had my star stage II kit for a few months now and im more than pleased, i have no modifications other than the turbo kit and turbo-back exhaust, engine completly stock, i started at 3 psi, then 5, then 7 and ive been running 8psi for a few weeks and the car is responding very good, My question is What do i need to do next to get more power, im hoping to get to 15-18psi and i want to know what is needed to be sure im not f$%!ing my engine, also if possible where can i get the best deal on what is needed.
thank you very much for checking my thread :thumb: !

it all depends on what you are trying to do...whether it to tune for better performance on your current boost...or is it to build up for more boost...which is it???

if you want you can ask me on aim im stricklyhatchez...but the first steps are forged pistons and rods...cams and cam gears (of course)...and bigger injectors...but there is ALLOT of hidden power in the 420a...im me if you want to know

let me just start off by saying its beatiful to see another RST and 2nd off im going with the JE pistons 8.8:1 compression which i have heard can boost up to 30psi with the engine not blowing up. Stock compression on the 420a is 9.6:1 im not rebuilt myself pushing 5psi on a T3. But if you want that 420a to punch out like 350whp you need to rebuild this means pulling the block out piston, rods, bearings, and id throw all new seals in since the engine is out. there is a guy on ebay that sells a eagle rod package with the JE pistons for 704 which is a good deal. normally the pistons are 500 and the rods are 340. Im pulling my block out in dec/jan but ya you want a rebuild and bigger injectors. you wont be able to keep the tires planted LOL. Anyway if you get the 8.8:1 your going have to get the block bored over. putting stronger internals in with same compression will still create the same backpressure and thats what you want to eliminate so you can boost alot higher.

If your going to want to run more boost like said above you need to rebuild the bottom end with forged internals and lower the compression. www.howellautomotive.com has bottom end rebuild kits. When you do that you'll be able to run more boost but you'll be flowing a ton of fuel if you dont get bigger injectors so you can run a lower fuel pressure and still be fine. You also might wanna look into an 8 injector setup with an sfmu, the megasquirt or hahns new portfueler. That will let you run more boost. As for other stuff to do. Get an underdrive crank pulley as it helps a bit and is cheap. Then move on to the head which howell also has top end build's for our motor. valves, valvesprings, lifters, cams and camgears etc... Or you could just buy the built race motor kits (top and bottom) for our car and have a beast of a 420a

Edit: some other things to do would be on the intake side. Get a 60mm Modern performance tb(they rock), or a 60mm jeep tb(had one and didnt like it) and get your intake manifold port and polished to gain a few hp here and there. The tb will not give much if any hp but will make throttle response a ton better.

Edit2: some stuff to do first would be things to better tune it right now. An sfmu as aposed to the fmu the kit comes with will let you tune the fuel better as will an safc. Also the fuel cut defender(black box) that comes with the star kits sucks (mine just quit working), so chunk it and get a missing link which will run you about 50-60 bucks. Once you start building everything you might do well to look into getting a custom downpipe made. I know someone makes a 3 inch one for star kits that routes the wastegate dump back into it but i dont remember who. Go with a built motor top and bottom, 3 inch turboback exhaust, intake mods, udp, and fuel stuff and you'll be FAST.
Sorry this stuff is kinda outta order.

Lots of thanks Gorkoracing!, info very useful, i think ill go for the howell bottom end kit, just gotta pay for few things first, but ill let you know when im ready! thanks again!
P.D. any more comments/suggestions are welcomed!
thanks! ;)

quick question....are u guys having any types of troubles w/ these kits?....like stuff breaking or clutches going etc. etc. that u would have to worry about?...i plan on going 5 psi...on a hahn stage 1....do u think i could go for a few years w/out breaking anything if i never pushed over 5 psi??

well, ive only had my kit for a few months, and everything has just worked marvelously! no mechanical problems at all!(yet...) the only problem is that it makes you an addict, actually i started saving money for my turbo kit and making all the research when i got to drive my brothers twin-turbo stealth, i just loved driving turbo, so i set my self into buying my kit, but anywayback on your question i think youll be ok with 5 psi, i started from 3 and raised it slowly like every week or so till i got to 8 psi. to see how it respond

I've had my eclipse for about 5 years now. I have been turbo for close to 2 years. My car had the stock clutch in it until recently when i dyno'd my car and the load from the dyno i think caused it to finally go. The stock clutch will hold for a good while as long as you dont abuse it. When it does finally need replacing go with a spec stage 3 and aluminum flywheel from exileracing.com and you'll be set.
