I have a 95 Eclipse that I am considering turbo charging. It has a new motor that is approaching its first 60K timing belt change. My clutch also has recently started to slip so I will be replacing that at the same time. I figured if I was going to do all that work I might as well consider going turbo and be done with it. For the sake of this post lets consider I go with a stage 2 kit from either Hahn or Star.

1. Is there anything I have to beef up in the motor itself...(shortblock, heads)
2. Do you guys run the stock cam? If not what cam do you recommend?
3. What about the fuel requirements, are the stock components good enough?
4. What about the exhaust requirements? I only have a aftermarket muffler right now.
5. What kind of clutch setup is best to use when going turbo?
6. What about the ignition? are the stock parts going to work?
7. What about the computer? Does it have to be reprgrammed? Where do you get it done?
8. Where have you guys seen some good deals on these turbo kits?

I am sure I left things that need to be upgraded out, so feel free to point those out as well. I appreciate the input.

Thanks

With the HRC stage 2 kit.

1. As long as you folow the recommendations of HRC when setting up fuel system, and run only the boost thay they say, you should be fine with just bolting the kit on.

2. You can use stock cams. You wont need them w/stage 2. MUCH later and after more mods, then you could think about getting cams. You don't NEED them. Stockers are fine.

3. HRC's kit comes with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, and an inline fuel pump. You will be fine if you set these up according to HRC's instructions.

4. At least a 2.5 inch would work, but if you are going to be turbo, then the greatest concensus will be to get a 3".

5. Depends on power level really. Sateg 2 I would get a ClutchMaster stage 3. That would be more than enough IMO. There are other clutches such as SPec. DO NOT GET CENTERFORCE!!

6. Stock ignition is fine

7. Stock ECU computer is fine. If and WHEN you build your motor to handle more boost etc etc, then you will want to upgrade the fuel system and may have to run an xtra injector controller or standalone. Thats WAAYY down the road for you tho.

8. For HRC, there is no better place to get them, except them. You pretty mcuh wont find any "deals" as far as I know.

Wow you answered all my questions, I really appreciate that. It looks like there isn't as many supporting mods as I thought. Time to seriously start looking into the turbos.

Thanks again

Hey man, sounds like your cars giong to be fun! And thanks to green95hrcgs, I know a few more quirks. Im ordering a shortblock from FTY most likely this week, with 8.6:1 pistons. Id like to put about 14 to 15 psi through, and in doing so, im upgrading to a 255lph fuel pump and some larger injectors. Also Im going to go with the S-AFC to fine tune. Now for my question on that.... will the FPR work okay untill I get my AFC at around 12 to 14 psi?

Well the Cartech FPR that comes with the HRC kit is more affectionately called the CRAPtech by most. It seems to be kinda unreliable as in being consistent. Most people swtich over to the Vortech S-FMU, which is much more adjustable and able to hold solid fuel pressure unlike the CRAPTECH.

FYI, an S-AFC should only be used to FINE tune after you hav tweaked the SFMU properly, otherwise you will start to affect the ignition timing.

I would build up the bottom end for sure. We ran stock internals for a couple of months and tore it all back down to redo the motor. You'll make a lot more power with a built motor and it will make you a lot happier.

Hey thanks, you are being extremely helpful! I was under the impression that the Star stage II kit comes with the Vortech unit... I may be wrong. But if it doesnt, Ill take your advice and move on up. But thanks for the help man, it answered some questions. And sorry to the first poster for hijacking his thread.

I have the Hahn Kit and everything you need will be there. Like said earlier just follow the instructions and you will be fine. The 420A can handle 300 hp. And for kit sake I heard that the Hahn Kit is better because its not made as cheap and the instructions are in depth unlike the Star Kit. Good Luck PS you will love it :talon:
