what all do i have to do to get my eclipse on some serious power?
i just bought an awd eclipse and want to work on it but i was told about the crank walk on the 5 bolt and was told by someone it might be good to swap out to the japan spec cyclone. or the lancer 4g63? will that work... or would it be more efficiant to do the earlyer turbo swap.?

Well first off there is no 5 bolt its either a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt. Second what year. And third jdm cyclone motors are the same as the U.S. spec motors they just have the intake manifold. As far as evo motors go they wont work the cam gears are on the opposite side.

so is it good to dump money into the 4g63 2nd gen or to purchace a 1g 4g63 and dump it into that.. i read some articles about people when they fix up there car and they all swaped it out for the first generation motor???? what would be better to do... i dont know alot about the 4g63.... ive been messing with the 420a too long.... :barf:

Its easy to swap the 1g 6 bolt into a 2g 7 bolt. There is info all over the web. Stock they can make 400hp no sweat. There is only 5 options(I think) with the motors, do a 2.0 (4g63), a 2.3 stroker (2.0 4g63 with a 4g64 crank), and a 2.4 stroker which is a 4g64 with the head off a 4g63 reworked to fit, one of Marcos 2.4 long rod set up with 156 mm rods, or another one of Marcos 2.1 destroked 2.4s for mega high revs.

its not good to dump money into either before you figure out wtf is going on...you need to start researching through archives and other websites.

and im not sure how you figure this belongs in advanced tech either  ..more like general/newbie

You may want to watch what you say regarding the ease of "swapping" a 6-bolt into a 2gnt. You should search and see how many people have actually sucessfully swapped out a 420 motor for a 4g63. Gary, you should specify if you want to get rid of your 2gnt and get a turbo model or if you are planning on putting a 4g63 in your car.

And I agree, this belongs in the knoob section.

Dooh! I didnt even read that it was a non-turbo, never mind what I said. Get the turbo kit form Hahn Racecraft. I didnt even look at his name untill somebody else said it. I had a buddy at a local shop do a 420 to a 4g63, he said never again.

ohhhh man.... sorry everyone... no not into my 420.... i just bought a 4g63 talon... and wanted to know is it worth buying the 6 bolt to swap into it or is it a better idea to work on the stock engine..... or over all just sell it and boost my 420???

as long as youre not doing internals, id play with the 7 bolt. if it isnt broke...
dont fix it

What are your goals? The biggest thing ive heard that breaks the 7 bolt is the clutch. Put a big grippy clutch and kiss it good bye. Dont rebuild the 7 bolt, its not worth the money to try to fix it.
On the 6 bolt decide how much power you want to make. Plus how much money you have to spend. You can do a cheap rebuild with 1g big rods and 2 g pistons, or any of the other things I listed. Hope that helped some.
