Hey what up......I'm thinking about buyin a turbo off a junkyard eclipse....is therre anyone out therre that has done the same.....what are your opinions on it...??? I want to know if I will get my moneys worth or don't even waist my time.........anyone who can help please do.thanks...later

Well since you have the 2nd gen n/t you have the 420a engine and you cant take turbo parts from a turbo engine and just bolt them to your car, there would be extensive modficications that would have to be done, your better off buying a hahn or star kit.

what other parts...are you talkin about gauges, fuel pump..and stuff like that ? I knew I would be buyin other stuff rather thenjust get the turbo and bolt it on right away.....also I'm not payin for the turbo I'm gettin outta the junk yard..its free...I am also gettin the intercooler for free.....

Your biggest problem will be the exhaust manifold. The one off the junk yard car will not bolt up to your engine. Then you'll need a custom downpipe made as well as custom intercooler/intake piping.

so in all....how much am I lookin at spending on the other parts other then the turbo and intercooler?

If you have the technical know how, building your own turbo kit is neither hard or impractical. Its possible to save $1500 to $2000 or even more depending on where you find your parts. All you need to do is secure the following.

Intercooler:
You can get a decent one on ebay fairly cheap. Spearco go for around $389 on ebay.

Turbo: All you need to do is decide which type you want to use, a ball bearing t28 from a Skyline is a nice turbo, it spools quick, and is easily available due to the fact that skyline owners usually upgrade their turbos. If you want to use a 16G or 20G or S20G thats still possible, just buy the turbo from HRC, just the turbo.

Oil Lines: There easy and cheap to do, tap the oil pan, and split it at the sending unit to get your feed.

Piping: Custom piping is simple to do, I piped it all in pvc, bending it with a heating blanket. When I got it the way I wanted it, I pulled it all off, and took it into a custom muffler shop. They bent all the peices in stainless, it looks great and was cheap.

Fuel:
I went with a custom 8 injector setup over a rising rate fpr. I have a 1:1 fpr, and use a second fuel rail with 550cc injectors, controlled by an EIC. Also if you want to use a vortech smfu summit sells them for $270, you can get them used on ebay for $150-$190.

Injectors:
Bosch style injectors will work, mine came from a mustang in a junkyard that had 550cc injectors, they looked great and I got them for $20.

Downpipe: I had it custom fabircated by a local muffler shop for $120.

Turbo Manifold: I got mine from a guy on 2gnt who makes them. It didn't looked the best at first. But after I got it powered coated it looks great, it held up well and I've had no issues.

EGT: Bought the gauge and probe from Ebay.

Boost Controller: Got a apexi avcr from ebay for $310.

Needless to say I pretty much got everything I needed from junkyards, ebay, and had the custom work I needed done by local shops.

Don't let naysayers discourage you form building your own kit, the HRC and STAR kits are over priced. The HRC is insanly over priced. Think for the $2000 you save, you could spend that on building your shortblock.

I put my kit together for around $1850, its comparable to a STAGE III or IV HRC kit. The money I saved I spent building the bottom end of my engine.

If anyone needs any help building a custom kit, feel free to email me or PM me with anything your stuck at.

One mans junk is another mans treasure.

I've only had one bad experience buying parts form a salvage yard. I got a block to use as a core once that had a crack in it. The owner of the yard gave me my money back, and a free block that was fine. If you want to spend full price on parts go ahead by me, but if you have people skills you can get almost anything you need from a junkyard, and for almost nothing. Bartering is great.

well guys....I decided I'mg oin to get me a super 20G turbo off A guy on the net...it needs rebuilt as you have probably seen on my other post but what the hell I need a turbo and It will be cheaper to get this one rebuilt versus gettin a brand new one.....any ideas on the hp I will be runnin after I complete the turbo....thanks
