Emanage Blue Ignition FIX

Ok guys, I know most of you perfer to use megasquirt now but for those of you who still like the emanage unit. We now have ignition control. I searched around for days/weeks trying to figure out how to get control over ignition timing on a 2gnt. I found not one person who has been successful. I started researching how our cars ignition works and compared it to the 4g63 ignition. Both systems are a wasted spark ignition, the only difference is that our ecu grounds the coils to make them fire, where as the 4g63 sends a 12v signal to the transistor pack which grounds the coils making them fire.

We are basically making our ignition system work like theirs. With some help I have designed a circuit so that when the ECU grounds the coil to send spark this circuit sends out a 12v pulse. We take this pulse and run it through emanage then out to a transistor pack stolen from a 4g63 motor. The transistor pack then grounds the coil making the plugs fire.

The ignition has been hooked up to the car and tested. I am not currently running the ignition hooked up bc I need to put the circuit board in a box and get the ignition harness. When I do the final install I will take more pics and then add this info to the tech articals.

PARTS:

Predrilled circuit board
Four 10K resistors
Four 1K resistors
Two 2N3906 transistor
Wire
Soldering gun
Case for circuit

Emanage
Ignition harness
4g63 Transistor Pack

Mitsubishi has used several different transistor packs. I used the J722T 7-pin. Not sure if other transistor pack could be used, you would have to try them. Here is how to hook the pack up:

Pins:
Oc1 - Output to coil pack ch.1
IB1 - Input from Emanage ch.1
Vb - 12v source
Tac - Not used
Gnd - Ground
IB2 - Input from Emanage ch.2
Oc2 - Output to coil pack ch.2

These are the jumper settings you will need to use: Jp1 - 1&2 Jp2 - 1&2

The pic only showes one channel hooked up. Remember you will have to build two circuits to control both coils.

Good luck to anyone attempting to build this circuit!

*Special thanks to Ron H from AllAboutCircuits.com for helping design the circuit*

Nice work... I think most of the 2GNT community has abandoned the E-Manage, but it's nice to see someone still chugging along providing options. Options are always a good thing.

Thanks man. I actually like the emanage and how it works. The ignition was the only problem we had with it. Its a good option for those that dont want the trouble of going to a full stand alone.

well well well, how the times have changed. I spent a little while trying to get this to go, so congrats on getting it going and I hope it works out for you. You might as well take full advantage of the emanage and E-o1 boostcontroller combo

HOw are you configuring the triggers? These are one of the most confusing trigger systems that i've come across in doing stand alones. There's 2 sets of 3 triggers 180* apart on teh crank. Then there's the cam sensor that has 3 magnets in it and i forget how many markes on the cam.

how do you set it up? Is it multi tooth, or how is it interpreted? I built a distributor for the 420a head when we put an accel DFI on my girls neon, but that was a pain. The only next step is a trigger wheel with rare eath magnets and a reluctor pickup

The emanage is still a piggy back system and uses the stock ECU to calculate timing.

The ECU grounds the coils causing them to fire, the problem I had was that emanage will not work this way. So what I did was build a circuit to reverse the signal. I ran the wires coming from the ECU to this circuit, when the ECU grounds the circuit, the circuit gives me a 12v pulse signal. The emanage can use this type of signal, then run it to the transistor pack which grounds the coil.

It sounds like your designing something totally different than I did. I let the ECU calculate timing I just changed the way the ECU triggers the coil basically.

Im not really familar with that part of the ignition system but why cant you use the same signals the stock ECU does?

Nice to hear. If your looking for an e-01 to buy, I would consider selling mine-

I gave up on e-damager after the first rebuild!

Im not really looking for the E-01 right now. It would be nice to have but I need to finish buying parts for my rebuild.
