Could be anything from a bad master cylinder to a broken shift fork. Some other things are bad slave cylinder, bad release bearing, or just need a good flush (check your fluid level?)

fluid level is good i dont think it could be the shift forks because i can shit the gears when car is shut off. if it were the slave would the clutch just go to the floor?. when u say need a good flush would that mean drop the fluid out of the tranny and replace it? the car has 150 thousand KM!! on it and the tranny has 230 thousand KM!! on it.

thanks for the help i need as much as i can get

It sounds more like a clutch problem. From my experience, if it is a bad tranny you wouldn't be able to go thru the gears when the car isn't running. What I mean is the clutch release fork. Yes, if the problem was in the lines (or the cylinders), you should be able to tell a difference in the way the clutch pedal feels (it will stick to the floor if there is no pressure in the lines. By flush, I meant totally bleed the clutch.

Definitely a clutch/clutch system problem. It's got to be pressure related I would think, either the slave cyl. is broken, in turn not creating enough pressure on the fork to fully disengauge the clutch, or the pressure is being lost somewhere else(as stated before). Whatever it is, the clutch isn't fully disengauging, which is why you grind when you manage to get it in gear, the motor is still spinning the transmission a bit so the gears don't slide together smoothly. Which in turn is why you can get it in gear when the car is off. Nothing is spinning.

could it just be the fluids, this sounds like my problem. And the fluids in my car are only about two months old... when I got the new engine in the car is when the fluids went in... and I checked it today when my shit got worst... and my fluid is almost black... looks like Dr. Pepper... but not as tastey.. hehe jp.

Have someone pump the clutch while you look at the slave cyl piston to make sure it's moving the clutch fork every time, or if it's malfunctioning at all.

When the car is in gear, there is a grinding sound... will the car move if you have it in gear? Cause what happend to my last setup was clutch related, the shaft gear that takes in the shaft from the transmission into clutch completely snapped off of the clutch... so that was making a very loud grinding sound.

Blown slave. Replacing it will probably cause the master to fail. Count on replacing both, but you can start with the slave.
