Be prepared to be disappointed with that trans for a while. I see why you are going that route but it wont make you faster at all, you will be slower. Gotta remember the Neon is quite a bit lighter.
The 3.55 is really not any stronger than our 3.94. Those who argue it is are arguing based on the fact that the ring gear on the diff is smaller in circumfrance (sp). This would theoretically make the gear geometrically stronger but if you actually measure the size, its less than 1/8" smaller. In reality there isnt any difference between the "strength" of the 2 trans's (of similier year and design). Some of the later Neon trans's had a higher torque rating, 155 to 165. Not much change really. If I recall the 2002 trans is the point where the trans was rated 10ft lbs higher.
The one thing you accomplish here is when you do turbo your car, you wont have to consider a tranny swap to reduce wheel spin. That is the chief goal when swapping to the 3.55. The 3.55 is a lower ration which puts a higher load on the motor making it harder to spin the tires. Thsi also creates more heat in the exhaust and you know where that theory goes.
Looks liek the bearings are 23.00 each aftermarket:
