hello i have a motor i am building myslef now and i want to know what compression ratio i can go and still be able to run high octane pump gas. im goint to have everything els built and i want to run nitrous and i know that N2o and high compression are a lovely couple but i dont know how high is to high i was thinking mabey 11.1 or somwhere in that range if you have raised the compression in your car let me know how much better it is and what gas you use thanks

sam

if your going all motor with some nos. then id go with 12.5 to 1 with a cam that will compensate for the high compression. thats what im running with a two stage nitrous express. Thats also what im getting ready to do to my 96. oh the other question i run 95 octane . But when im at the strip i run 110. bu t the 95 is for the road and very often is that car on the road. I mainly drive the 96 on the road.

how often does it breakdown running 12.5 to 1? i wouldn't think a dsm could push that. how big of a shot of nitrous do u use and whats the times you usually get at the track?

btw, what is the stock compression of a 1st gen... 2.0nt?

Ive never had any problem with my internals. I havent yet run a quater with my 2 stage system but when i was running a single shot i ran a 100 shot. i wish i could take a run with the two stage system. its too cold so all tracks shut down. i ran low 14 with the single stage i think i should run high 13 to mid 13s. i all depends on what forged pistons and rods u go with . I have titanium rods and had forged pistons completey machined. My 96 is getting cheaper parts. but they dont call them forged for nothing. Im putting crower rods and je pistons. pistons are rated at 450horse and rods are rated at 700. i think stock compression is 10:1. You shouldnt have a probelm running 12 to 1. If your not going turbo then thats the route i would take. Im pretty sure with my cams its actually more of 13 to 1 for my car. i wouldnt worry about the rods and pistons id worry about the injectors. i burned a hole in one of mine a while back cause the injectors failed so i had to replace that one. thats the only problem i ever had.

are you sure high compression is best for nitrous? i have heard mixed things about it. people either say you want low or high. if high is better, than 10:5 should be pretty good correct? stock is like 9:6:dsm:

see i was always told that to. so i went and asked my dad. He builds race engines for a living mainly and only v8. he doesnt like this import revolution going on right now. But he'll still tell me what i want to know. I asked him before i ran it and he said the higher compression the better. exspecially for nos. but if you dont believe me here is a web site that will help you into understand how nos works and what it works well with. http://www.diy-nitrous.fsnet.co.uk/ this guy nows what he is talking about. so take his advice. if mine isnt accurate for you.

ok from what i see i think im going to run 11.5:1 and use high test pump gas on the street ,and then mix up some cam 2 for the strip when im gonna use the nos. i wanna get rods and crower stage 2 cams and special order ross racing flat top pistons. some new slightly larger injectors and other goodies. then it should easily pull 14's right? i wanna hadg w/ my friends 5.0 he runs a 14.4 consitantly

it might run 14s but remember its about tuning not n20 get some head work done and if your going to rebuild and put pistons in then get your crank machined or knifeedge. if the engine is going to be out then go all out cause its hard to work on shit inside that engine bay. good luck with your compression and car.

Dont run more than 11.0:1 with pump gas.

jayden1, what kind of pistons and rods are you running? I've never heard of 95 octane at a regular station. My cousin lives in Indiana and he says he's never seen 95 octane around either.

i have crower titanium rods a fully machined forged pistons. they sell 95 octace pump gas at nick and andys gas station in elkhart indiana. If you for some reason never heard of 95 octane and im just going to lie about what gas put in my car then call look the number up and call them.

He didn't say he never heard of it... just at a normal gas station, any pump ive been to her in kentucky only has up to 93 i believe.

Your Mod List:
titanium rods, valves and valve keepers. fully machined crank and pistons. customized long tube headers. high flow cat. dual exhaust. crower cam. aem cam gears aem ecu.aluminum flywheel. custom intake manifold. 550 injectors. 2 stage nitrous express. and other odds and ends.

You have all these, but no name brands? Long tube headers? Those are for v8's buddy. Aluminum flywheel? What kind of clutch do you have to match? 2gnts have a modular clutch so Im just wondering. Full stand alone with just nitrous? How much timing advance are you running?

Plus you don't even know the stock c/r ratio? 9.6:1 for 2gnts, 9.0:1 for 1gnt (2.0L). Im just wondering if you just made up everything because most of the information you've given on here is incorrect.

your right its all for a v8 and i made it up why argue with you. custom usually means nobody make thems for our cars so u have them made.

AF/X doesn't make long tube header for our car, they make it for the dodge neon. Also the neon's header is in between the block and the firewall allowing it to be a long tube header; it would be useless on our car.

He just mentions an aluminum flywheel. I dont know of any company that makes a non-modular clutch for our car meaning he would have the combo... but why not list it if he's listing the flywheel? He left all other questions unanswered.

You shouldnt have a probelm running 12 to 1. If your not going turbo then thats the route i would take. Im pretty sure with my cams its actually more of 13 to 1 for my car.

He's telling someone to run 12:1? And he thinks that his cams raise compression? JDM Integra Type R's run 11.1:1 and they have 101octane to rely on.

I'm calling bullsh1t on all his mods and everything he posts.

Yeah, I know that. thats where i got the idea from. there actually just for the neons cause there exhaust manifold is in the back. I got most of my work done at pro motor in goshen indiana. Oh yeah i forgot i made it up.

crane cam 0018. bore, stoke, piston, cam, determine compression i never said if u use 95 ocatane gas your gonna have 13 1 compression. dont hate my engine cause im lazy and dont list brands. if your really interested in seeing where i got everything dsm runnah then email me and ill tell you every place and even when. i can even pull some receipts for ya. they do make aluminum flywheels for out you just have to assemble the modular clutch yourself. with i didnt do and couldnt tell you how to do. cause thats just one part of the engine i dont like and it doesnt like me.
