Hey guys I have an AEM cold air intake on my 98 GS, and after driving home from work in the rain, I decided to check the air filter element, just for the heck of it, and to my surprise it was dripping wet! At first I was worried because I hadn't installed my bypass valve yet, but then realized that that only helps if the filter is submerged in water. So my question is, has anyone else noticed this on their intakes, and is this reason for concern? I'm sure some water/moisture is getting through, but is it harmful? I'm not worried about hydrolock, but has anyone had any problems?
thanks,
Heff

I have a 95 RS and an OBX CAI has been on it for about 2 years now, and no bypass valve. I have never experienced any problems with it as of yet, but that is not to say that I won't. However I live in the St. Louis area and plenty of rain comes and goes 'round here. So I do not think it is likely at all. Just watch out for those Big Puddles.:dsm: :thumb:

The filter has to be completly submerged. The filter just getting wet from the rain won't do anything. I've drove through rain many times, sometimes heavy downpours. As long as you are not in the water and giving it enough gas to actually suck water up.

My car recently hydrolocked only because i was stuck in about 2.5 feet of water.

I drivin inn pouring rain (had to) and I was fine. I dont think it will Hydroloc unless your submerged and rev the water up... Thinnk about it like a straw sucking up water...

I had a CAI for well over a year before going turbo with no problems...just don't drive through puddles like this...

The funny thing is, i had the water just right above the headlights and i had to climb out through my window in the pouring rain

i've had my CAI for some time now, and just like other guys said it, nothing happened... i've never actually checked if it was wet but everythign works fine... Just dont dirve into deep pudles and ull be alright!!!:thumb:
