Does my car have a modular clutch

Yes you have a mudular clutch. However, a non modular opens more options and is cheaper to maintain and replace. If you go check out the neon message board, you can find info and part numbers for what they use. You have to replace the clutcj, Flywheel, and pressure plate the first time but from then on, you only have to have flywheel resurfaced and if the pp is good, replace the clutch plate itself which is less than 200 bucks a shot. Much better than a modular setup which sits about 700 a shot since it is all one assy.

so what is the "supposed" benefit of the modular unit? i know that it is a self contained unit but is it actually better than a non modular one? my clutch is about ready for an upgrade and i plan to go with the clutchmasters stage four but my question is, should i get the modular with a $750.00 price tag or should i get the adapter that changes to a non modular unit with a non modualr clutch? thanks...trust

yea the stage 4 is way overkill. your NT clutch is plenty capable of handling all the torque or NA can throw at it. if you must go aftermarket stick with the ACT 2100...the 178 lb pressure plate one, unless you drop a turbo on or do some serious modding, that will be more than enough.

modular makes the installation a breeze. Just slip one clutch out, and slip the other one in. I heard its easier then changing a tire. Also, ACT doesnt make a clutch for 2GNT's, i would look at howellautomotive.com at their SPEC stage 2 clutch, thats what im getting, it should be pretty nice. Thats what you should get :thumb:

Well since Chrysler specifies that the flywheel should be replaced and not resurfaced, when you do a clutch job you are supposed to replace the flywheel as well. With that in mind, it is easier to just replace the unit. Another advantage is they don't need to have a separate block for auto and manual since the modular clutch bolts up to the flexplate.

i'm not trying to burst anybodys bubble but i heard the spec clutches aren't so great, just my 2 cents...trust

On this site from ONE person i heard its not a good clutch. Go over to 2GNT.com, this seems to be the only clutch being used on their cars over there and they all love it. A lot of them are pushing some serious power too. Ive neard nothing but shit from over there about the centerforce dual friction clutch, and cluthmasters. Many comments saying the CFDF blows ass, and slips all the time after 3 or 4 runs. Thats not what I want from my clutch. Ive heard nothing but great reviews about the SPEC clutch saying it grips like crazy, and even tho the pedal pressure is a lil harder, its worth it, and ive heard its never slipped on anyopnes car and some of those have built bottom end with turbos that are pushing 300+whp. So dont say the SPEC clutch is garbage.

I only have 2 things I want to point out.
1. most of the guy's at 2gnt putting out serious power use a Clutchmasters setup, the spec clutch is not as widely used, nor as time tested as the CM at 2gnt.com. I am not saying it's a bad clutch I'm sure it's great (and I think it's cheaper).
2. I seriously doubt you have read anything bad about clutchmasters over there except for one member. His only complaint is the life of the clutch, but he is the only one having that problem.
So to sum up this post Clutchmasters is great with spec a close second and yes CF clutches suck major ass.
Also on the 96 cars some had modular and some had non-mod. You may want to take a look before you order it. Or you could give your VIN to the dealer and they could tell you for sure. I have never seen a non-mod 95 but I have heard of them in the 96 cars. As you know 97+ was non-mod.

hey bro, i wasn't trying to tell you that "i" think that clutch is garbage at all, i was telling you what i have read throughout both of these car boards because i myself am in the market for a new one. i figuered that my imput may have actually been of use to you. you can do what you want because it's your money, honestly i don't care...trust

This is going to be a long story , i have bought the spec stage 2 non modular from howell automotive with a fidanza flywheel, this clutch is freaking garbage.... i take off the first run its nice.... 2nd run its garbage i only have like 5000 miles on the clutch , i bought it in the summer and i really dont drive alot... i installed it myself and torqued it at 87pounds for the flywheel ......... im so mad i wasted like 400 and no warranty...... that clutch sucks, im about to go for clutchmasters but i cant seem to find a non modular set up,

"eclipseryder im sorry but the spec clutch is freaking garbage, the pressure plate is good but the friction plate sucks, it slips so bad.... "

i had centerforce cfdf clutch Modular style for 1 year and the clutch got bad , clutch is garbage too,

the best clutch i ever had in my car was a Sach.... it never slipped on me but never grabbed hard.... it grabbed soft,

Honestly i want your opinion i think this is a excellent topic to talk about im eiether going to go for a centerforce dual friction non modular or a clutchmasters non modular clutch.... if anybody finds a clutchmasters non modular clutch let me know asap... and i will let you guys know how it feels

Does anyone have an opinion on the luk clutch listed on howellautomotive.com? I was only able to find one account of one being used on the internet, and he complained that it made noises and replaced it twice and the noises remained. It's a cheap clutch, and that's what matters to me.

Centerforce clutches are absolute crap. There have been several failures in our cars and some of them involved holes in the tranny case...
Clutchmasters makes non modular clutches, I have the stage 4 in my car right now. Call the shop at this website www.advancedracingdynamics.com They can get you what you need. Talk to them about your current mods and your future goals and they will help you pick the best clutch. As for the luk clutch I believe that is ment as a stock replacement but I don't know how good it is. If you want a stock clutch then buy one of those.
