does anyone actually have the howell 2.2 stroker?

ive tryed doing some research on the 2.2 stroker from howell and all i find is just people opinions and thoughts on the engine. im dying to find out how much hp these motors actually produce and if its worth the money for one. this winter a new motor and turbo is going in my car, and im thinking seriously about the stroker. if anyone can at least tell me some REAL numbers i would greatly appreciate it. thanks
 
Nobody has real numbers as far as I know. I don't think anyone has dynoed before and after to really know. The only way to really get those numbers is to dyno a completly stock car, and then install a 2.2L and dyno that. Any mod is going to add more HP to a 2.2L motor than it will to a 2.0L car so if you did this with a moded car the results would be some what skewed. I have the 2.2L stroker in my car. What I can give you is facts. 10% more displacement is going to make 10% more power period. You don't need HP numbers or any others to figure that out. If the engine has 10% more volume it will make 10% more power. that is scientific fact. Basicly I don't think you would ever get real scientific results to prove it through some guy on a board, only a manfacturer would do that. Bottom line if you have the extra money to get 10% more power then do it. I love mine, turbo spools faster, the car has more torque, etc..etc..etc. The other thing is usually when you pull a motor, your doing other mods while you are there, very few people just change a block without doing other things while they are there.
 
i was told by a guy at a local performance shop today that his guess with whats already done to the 2.2 motor if i added my built head, my ported and polished intake mani and tb, a better fuel system, 20g turbo, and a bottle that i would hit some very big #s for a 420a. im not really sure what turbo setup to go with, but i guess this will be the basics of the engine i go with. im also wondering about the depenability of all this. i know that a modded engine is gonna break down. thats just part of it. but at the same time i dont want to worry about something breaking every week LOL
 
Well, as mentioned above, Kirby has the stroker and I do too. Overall I would say that it has been worth the money. I did have the chance to dyno my car at the DSM Shootout. Lets do a comparison between my car and another heavily modded 2GNT that dynoed at the Shootout also.

My car = 236.2 whp
272.5 torque @ 13+psi

Jason Esi-T ( 2GNT ) = 245.4 whp
265.2 torque @14 psi

Not to take away from Jason's ride, because he put down some great number, but he was also a bit more tined than I was.

My car is COMPLETELY UNTUNED and put out a bit more torque although not quite as much power.

I am getting my car dyno tuned at a shop near me on Sept 8th. I will be sure to post the new figures and the actual dyno chart provided I learn how to.

But the 2.2L is definitely worth the little xtra money. Plus you will be in the 2.2L club member #4 to my knowledge!!! LOL
 
thanks for the replys guys. i feel pretty confident that if i got a setup like this the mustangs with mullets club around here would shit their pants :laugh: so on the bottle and a good top end i could probobly see the high 200's or low 300's right? now thats got me to thinking about ET's :confused: oh well. thanks for the replys again guys.
 
Hey green95hrcgs, did you ever get your car dyno'd after you tuned it?

I first read about the Howell 2.2 on these boards and am really interested in one. My 98 is bone stock and I am impressed by the numbers your car has already posted. What other mods have you done to the 2.2?
