AEM Intake question

I have an AEM short ram on my car now, is it possible to remove the metalpiece at the bottom of the filter? If so, is it harmful to the engine?

well first off, I dont have an AEM intake or any intake for that matter (im going the turbo route), but if you take it off and it will allow unfiltered air into the engine, then yes it can mess things up. If it is supposed to act like a heat shield, then you will get hotter air into the engine and less hp. If it is just there to look pretty then you can take it off w/o worry

It wont come off anyways, i mine as well leave it on. I think i'm just gonna change to a cold air and sell this one.

I too just did the same thing, sell the short air and buy the CAI much better performance and sound.

no keep it. incase it rains you can throw the short one back on, it gives me a litte more peace of mind then the by pass valve. i don't know just my oppinion.

I have a Weapon R Short Ram air intake on my ride, and I was wondering how much more HP would I gain if I took it off and went with a Cold Air intake. If I do switch up, I am pretty sure I will go with AEM, I have heard good things 'em.

Import Tuner Magazine did an article on an Eclipse GS a while back...

Only gained 2.7 Hp and 4.9 ft.lb TQ with the AEM.

if you want cold air, just go with a decent company they almost all are equall in gain numbers, dont just go with the biggest name just because that is what everyone does, if its alot more gain then it makes sense, but if not go with a decent one with good numbers in gain
