I have had the N/T for a while and after a year or so of learning about DSM's LOL... i have decided to not even bother with performance on the N/T dsm... not worth it I'm only 17.. im just gonna save for a nice 1g GS-T or GSX

It's sad though i would have really liked to make my GS a worthy competitor it's a shame there's not much options to make it fast except nos or forced induction =\

Do yourself a favour. You say your only 17? Insurance on a Turbo car will be WAY more than what you have. I suggest you simply do a swap. You can find turbo versions of your motor pretty easily, just do that and you'll save money in the long run.

Which motor do you have? The 4G63 is easy to mod for power. But a GSX is a lot more fun than a FWD...

if i do a swap... it'll only be fwd and i wont be able to run as high boost as stock turbo car... and tuning it correctly would be really hard...Im just starting to mess with the engine pulling out components but, i have a friend who has been doing this for a while so, we might be able to do the labor ourselves

the idea has crossed my mind before...i dont know im going to have to think it over

what are the pros vs cons? Would be just expensive as buying a GSX for 2,300?

LoL... then can you tell me how much it cost you supergoat? Are you happy with it? What times to run at the track? I was lookin forward to AWD :| but if i can turbo my car for cheap

What is better throwing a turbo in the car or a swap? And yes i have read about them and searched i just want supergoat's opinion

Thanks. How hard is it to bolt on an exhaust mani, turbo, IC, intake, BOV and wastegate? Seems like you could find most of the bits on a 4G63T in a bone yard and be good to go. Of course, yer boost would have to be lower, but lag would be minimal...

is that all?? wouldnt a swap be more beneficial? can you give me an approximate on what i would run full interior with just an intake as a supporting mod if i were to just throw those parts in? or a hp calculation?

LOL most people would say every car is different only way to find is do it... but i was jus wonderin if sum1 could make a guess :D

Dont give up just yet. I thought the same thing. Just keep diggin for parts. It took me about a monthe to find a decent used GST motor. Then about 2 monthes to find a 16G. Now I have both and waiting for other parts to find. Its all about patience, parts, time, and of course money and exsperience:thumb:

I don't have track times yet as I still need to get a strong clutch. The stock N/T clutch slips badly under more than about 3 pounds of boost.

The cost was pretty cheap. I bought a $500 parts car and ripped everything off of it. I did need to buy a new turbo though as the one on the parts car was dead. But I found a ported 14B on eBay for $150.

I also needed a better fuel pump as the stock N/T one is not turbo friendly at all. I didn't trust the stock turbo fuel pump either, so I bought a Walbro 255hp.

All in all I have spend probably about $850 once all costs are figured in to turbo my N/T. Right now I have boost set to 8psi which is the lowest I can set it. I was running 10psi but set it down to try and keep my clutch from completely burning up. Staying off the throttle helps too. :D

I do get on it a good bit though and can say that 5th gear in my car now almost feels like what 2nd did before adding the turbo, and that includes the mods I did to it as an N/T.

The High compression N/T pistons really help out with turning reletively low boost into big power. As long as you have enough fuel, the stock pistons should hold up just fine as long as you don't go boost crazy. Example, I tested my compression before adding the turbo, ran 10psi on it for about 1000miles. During those 1000miles I dogged it bad, just testing things out. I checked my compession again, no change whatsoever.

Also if you really want to turbo your N/T and do it right, here is your shopping list...

-Turbo Exhaust Manifold
-Turbo(duh) + Coolant/oil lines
-Downpipe
-Turbo 450cc injectors + resistor pack
-Turbo knock sensor
-Boost Control Solenoid
-Turbo Mas Air Flow Meter + Intake tubing
-Turbo ECU
-Intercooler + Piping
-BOV
-Turbo Fuel pump(at the very least.)
-Turbo Oil Pan
-Turbo Thermostat housing
-Datalogger of some sort(MUST HAVE)
-Boost gauge
-Boost Controller
-Oil Cooler
-Stronger Clutch!!!

I feel like I'm forgetting a few things, but that's all I can remember right now and I'm pretty sure that list is solid. I can't think of anything else I swapped to my car that's not on that list.

so if i bought a wrecked turbo talon or eclipse and a datalogger and boost controller, i would be able to do this fine? my car has the turbo tranny in it already.....when my tranny went, the only one i could find was a turbo tranny.....so i already have the stronger clutch.
also, if i went the maft way and an safc, would i be able to use my stock ecu? just bigger injectors and fuel pump? i wanted to make my n/t fast before....but i dunno if it will ever give me what i want after riding in my friends turbo. since our cars have higher compression, will we be able to make as much power as a a regular turbo car even tho we run lower boost levels(do the two even out).
what would i have to do to get more boost besides more fuel? would it take a full rebuild?
would be a fun project.....got money burnin a whole in my pocket and need something to do with it!

that sounds a lot cheaper than buying a turbo car... the thing is i would have to all the labor myself... im willing to work on it ofcourse i dont wanna spend money payin sum1 else to do it... how hard was it to turbo it? was tuning real hard? What clutch are you lookin to get?

I don't know, but I believe that if you start and save some cash you could eventually find some turbo FWD or AWD for cheap... of course good deals don't come often, but keep loocking like on DSMauctions.com or DSMtrader.com, Autotrader.com you know those kinda places even here in the classifieds section and someone could offer you something that is worth the money and you future projects...

.02 cents

DSMauctions.com never heard of that one... seems like a good site.. i've been browsin on DSMTrader,E-bay, and autotrader for a while some good deals have come across... but i just dont have the money for them

hmm this jus crossed my mind... my car has almost 150k mileage on it wouldn't turboing hurt the engine? I'd have to get my engine rebuilt or do a swap which is harder... things are lookn down again :(

have your motor rebuilt and put either a hahn racecraft or a star, dont do a swap, there was a guy on herre aobut 4 months ago that tried and had to quit because he had to swap out the front half of the frame. not worth the money. talk to any of the guys on here with a "rs-t, es-t, or esi-t" they can prooly give you some price ideas

he is a 1g......o dont think they make kits for us....only the 420a. the easiest and cheapest way would be getting a turbo car and swapping the parts. many people have done it.....and if you can do all the work yourself(which you should be able to if your going to turbo your car) then it will be cheap!!! i'm gonna start looking for parts soon, but i will do a rebuild first (some good 9:1 forged pistons, keep the stock rods since they are the same as the turbo ones).
do some research and you will see, and theres a vfaq on it too.....
http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html
its in the turbo section right at the bottom

Basically I am doing exactly what supergoat is doing. But I spent a little more. Plus I will using a 16G which is waiting to get ported and cliped. Its a daily driver so Im going to buy a cheap ass junker so I can drive it and work on my Talon so I will still have a vehicle if I need to go to a parts store or some help to do the swap. (which will be soon)
need boost controller and knock sensor now

i'd really like to know what kinda times people run turboing an N/T... we are lighter than stock turbo fwd and awd.. so that should help out a little and our trannie's have better gearing...and but we cant run as much boost due to compression

well with a full turbo motor i'm running low 14's at 104-ish.

i've heard of others running high to mid 14's on nt engines with low boost 14b's.
